I reviewed the main system earlier (see below). This add in heat detection is fur this rare moments something is burning without immediate smoke (like inside a wall or near a gas fireplace). You need to get a base to make this work. I recommend their other devices.Review for full protection: After reviewing a number of systems, I settled on X-Sense because these detectors are interconnected and WiFi based. The app is easy to use, the detectors are super easy to connect and installation was effortless. On top of it the functionality is prs rival and offers the right amount of options. I expanded the fire detection system to include the X-Sense security system. Because I can now get instant alerts on my phone wherever I am, I opted not to buy their monitoring plan - yet. Should I do so, the top plan is only $49.99 per year for both fire and security. That’s equivalent to one or two months of regular plans with the more known companies.

A neighbor just five homes doors down from us lost their house a week ago from a fire that seems sure to have started in the garage. We could see a metal frame of a child's bunk bed on the second story of the burned out house on the other side of the wall that room shared with the garage. How terrifying. The fire trucks were called out at midnight, and it made us wonder if we would wake up in time to save any of our house if the fire started in the garage and had to burn down a wall before smoke would get inside the house and trigger an interior smoke alarm. So we did a little research and learned that heat detectors are recommended for the garage (not smoke detectors). We bought this one because X-Sense makes a "home base" that connects to your Wi-Fi and is situated inside the house. It will sound an alert when the heat detector goes off in the garage (because the heat detector sends the home base a message via Wi-Fi). The home base is sold separately, and we couldn't find a way to just buy the base, so we bought the SBS50 Base Station & Listener, Model SAL11.We tested the heat detector with a hair dryer (as many other reviewers said they did), and it worked great. Both the garage unit and the home base inside the house went off with piercing alarms. So if you're a light sleeper or your bedroom is close to your garage, the heat detector alone may wake you at night. We wanted the extra layer of protection. We played around with the "Listener" ("listens" for smoke and CO detectors that aren't X-Sense detectors) and got it to trigger with our First Alert CO alarm. The advantage is that the home base sends you an alert through the app whenever it hears an alarm. So we'd get an alert when we are away from the home for the X-Sense heat detector in our garage and our other brands of smoke and CO protectors that go off in close proximity to the "Listener."All totaled, we spent $66.55 and an hour of our time setting things up (which wasn't tough at all - great directions, for a change). Since our hot water heater and electrical panel are in the garage, it just seems common sense that people should have some kind of alert system in that part of their home.

Already had the smoke detectors so when wanted to get heat dectors for barn near the house and garage I bought these. Install was so simple and took less then 2 minutes each to connect them to the base. Installed in their place and tested with a heat gun. Works just as well as my smoke detectors do.

Just installed and the manual says that in normal standby mode, the led flashes RED every 60 seconds-mine flashes GREEN. Should it be red or green??
