Application:
-- Help with the installation and re-sizing of the 4L80E & 4L85E Turbine Shaft Seals.
-- Works with all input shaft lengths
-- Similar to Kent-Moore J-38736, Atec Trans-Tool T-2974 & T-2974-M
Function:
-- The re-sizer prevents improper installation and damage of the seals.
-- Prevent distortion during installation.
Simple to use:
1. Properly remove the old seals, make sure all seal debris is removed from each groove.
2. Lube the grooves, new seals, and tools with trans-gel.
3. Expand the seals for the small end first to the proper ID.
4. Center the new seals in the grooves and gently apply finger pressure to ensure the seals are inserted into the grooves.
5. Slide the small re-sizer over the seals using the LONG TAPERED END first, this will ensure the seals are gradually seated into the grooves. NOTE: using the short tapered side first may cause the seals to roll out of the grooves and permanently damage them!!!
6. Let the re-sizer set the seals for at least one minute, then flip the re-sizing tool now using the SHORT TAPERED SIDE to insure both seals are properly sized.
7. Repeat the same steps for the large end making sure all grooves, seals and tools are properly lubed with trans-gel before installation.

So i read reviews on this after i bought it and thought i made a mistake… well with a little common sense this tool worked wonders. For those that say the ramp is too much for the bigger rings, do the first one, leave the sleeve on there for about 20 min. The turn the sleeve around and use the other side for the bottom ring. This tool save me hours of frustration and another set of teflon rings lol!

I use these things to assemble my 4L 80 E transmission, to size and shrink my Teflon sealing rings. Although I did have to cut down one of the tapered sides because it was tapered too long and hit a journal on the shaft before completely sizing it. I put it in my lathe and I shortened it about a quarter of an inch and it works fine after that ? Not sure it would’ve shrunk enough without shortening it first. I have been at Transmission mechanic for 30 years.

Garbage!!!! Not machined properly. The resizer for the larger rings has too much taper and the smaller one didn't fit and no taper. Stupid me didn't check when I received it and didn't even try it until after return date. Do yourself a favor and save your money.

This works for the 4 input shaft Teflon seals but doesn't accommodate the stator or center support seals.

Sizer for smaller rings works great. larger rings tool has both ends with a beveled finish, one is a long finish and other is steep. The long end hits input shaft before the ring is sized, The short end has to steep of a finish and damage the ring

Small ring sizer does not size rings Small enough. The large ring sizer is made with too long of taper and will not resize the inner ring at all. The idea is good just needs revamping to work correctly.
