My sulcata tortoise likes to burrow and dig, so I tried this for the first time. The bricks are heavy and provide ample substrate for him, he is about 5 pounds, especially if mixed with mulch. The price was much better than that of the same kind of material at the local pet stores. I am careful to keep the substrate moist since I read that allowing it to dry out too much can cause respiratory problems in tortoises. We'll see how it goes. So far, so good.

The product is high quality and like I mentioned before, there is more than you would think there is. This was a great deal.

This is a finer mix than others. It's perfect if it's what you need, but pay attention to the details. Our tortoise mostly needs bigger chunks, but this has its place.

I use these for my Tortoise habitat. I like that they are easy to use, pour some water and they will break apart easily. This is so much better than hauling big bags of dirt from my car and it is a better healthier substrate for the tortoises to walk on and live in.

This is a very early review but since this is kind of a process with lots of information, I wanted to provide my first experience so far and I’ll continue to add my review as time goes on.NOTE-these come delivered as VERY HARD COMPACTED BRICKS! That’s NORMAL!. Add water like instructed and they’ll come apart for you to FLUFF UP!!I bought the 2 pack and have never used this type of bedding for our Russian Tortoise before now. We bought him a new house/condo that’s enormous compared to his big glass fish tank. Technically they shouldn’t be in glass but it’s what he was given to us in and unfortunately we haven’t had the extra money to buy him anything better until now due to inflation.Anywho….I followed the directions that I found here on Amazons page on how to break up these bricks. I used nine 16.9oz bottles of water. Clearly you’re not supposed to give reptiles of any sort tap water from your faucet due to all the chemicals. It can make them severally sick and even kill them. So bottled or purified water is best! Even if it’s just to soak their bedding to fluff it up. Actually the first brick I used 9 bottles, the 2nd brick I used only 7. Reason being is my little dude needs to be in dry bedding, not moist or wet. So I used less after learning how it came out the first time.Trial and error I guess :).I used regular buckets. I’m not sure how many gallons they are but I’ll provide pictures so you have an idea. A basin would work good too assuming you’re doing one brick at a time. This stuff broke up extremely easy after it got wet. It was instant except for the very middle, that took a tad longer due to how long it takes to fully absorb the water. It only took about 5 mins for each brick between wetting, breaking and fluffing it up. So not long at all and it was easy. I’m quite happy how easy this process was. Now I’m just waiting for it to dry up a bit before adding it into little dudes new enclosure. I’m not sure if it’ll be dry enough tonight or if we’ll have to wait until tomorrow.I want to mention a few things regarding the negative reviews I read and to hopefully shed some light. The people who complained about these being hard bricks and weren’t able to use them, and were mad they were useless, well…. clearly didn’t read the instructions. These are compacted for a reason. Simply pouring the 4-5 liters of water over it does the trick. In their defense the packaging didn't provide instructions, just a picture of reptiles. However they could’ve very easily found them on the page they bought it from on Amazon or even used a search engine like google. So please, do not listen to those bad reviews regarding that.. It was a human error. Not the product or company’s fault.Someone else complained they had bugs in theirs. Fortunately I haven’t experienced that with the ones I received. I almost put the buckets outside to help dry it out faster then realized I don’t want to do that incase animals or bugs get into it. So instead they’ll stay in the house or down in the basement. Mine do not have any foul odor like someone else mentioned in a review, maybe they got a bad batch? Mine smells like nothing.I hope some of this information helps. Once we have his new home all set up, I will post some videos and pictures and will let you know if he likes this bedding VS the bark we were buying before. The bark was also very expensive compared to those stuff. So I’m hoping he loves it since it’s a cheaper option. And if not, then back to buying the bark lol.

Bearded dragon loves it, she is not stressed at all from the change from sand to coconut fiber!Easy to clean poo, and leaves no smell! But, very messy to put into cage. Use water to break apart and spread around.
