I've been doing some amateur drawing and wanted to be able to make circles. I remembered having a compass as a kid, so was happy to find this set. This is inexpensive and very compact, but the compass isn't as good as the standard math class compass I remember from school. Instead of having a clip to use a regular pencil, this has a very small pincer that you're supposed to tighten around a pencil lead. (Several such pencil leads are included). It's pretty hard to get that lead in straight and secure, and the thing is so small that it feels awkward and wobbly if you try to make a large-ish circle. So I usually end up with at least one side of my circle being a bit wobbly, but it's better than I could do free-hand. Works for my very amateur use, but the pencil lead thing might be a bit fussy for a kid to use.

i wasn't expecting much. it arrived unusable. i picked one up at wally world cheaper.the compass and ruler were fine.
