- These are really nice quality- I have been using them to clean up mill scale on steel before welding and painting they strip fast and leave a good surface.- These are holding up way better than the flap disks I was using and they leave a nicer finish

I really like how well these worked to remove rust, welding slag, paint, or anything else on a metal piece. Let the disk do the work, pressing hard only breaks down the pad faster.

I have an old house that requires periodic repainting which requires getting rid of old flaky paint. I have been using a 1/4 sheet hand sander with coarse sandpaper, along with various scrapers, to prep the house. It is time consuming and labor intensive. The small area I used for testing came out looking great, old paint and mildew were cleaned off without gouging the wood. The paint stripper disks did a better job than the hand sander, I didn't need to use the scrapers and the angle grinder is battery powered so I didn't have a cord to deal with. I will still get a good workout but these are less labor intensive and they do a better job of prepping the wood.

This style of wheel typically works great to strip paint, rust, body filler, etc off of vehicle body panels to quickly get to bare metal, without affecting the metal itself. The WelderElite blue stripping discs are no exception. I tested these on a panel of metal that had paint, primer, and truck bedliner on it. It stripped all of the materials off quickly, easily, and with a minimal amount of smearing (only on the bedliner section, which I expected). There was a small amount of bedliner residue in the pores of the stripping disc after I went over that section. It didn't seem to affect performance on my sample, but it was a small sample so you might get some buildup if you strip a whole pickup bed, for example. Based on my testing I'd recommend these.

I used the 4" version of this "strip" disk on an angle grinder. It's important to note that you cannot use this size on most 4-1/2" angle grinders because the mounting hole is 5/8" diameter, while most 4-1/2" grinders take a 7/8" hole disk. This 4" disk does fit 4" angle grinders (and others if they have a flange will allow a 5/8' hole disk.)I had an older 4-1/2" grinder that did accept this disk, but most of my newer grinders would not. This was a 46 grit silicon carbide abrasive disk. It has a very aggressive look, and it's a rigid pad, not a flexible one. It looked and felt like it would really tear into materials and I wondered about the manufacturer's claim that it was suitable for paint removal. In use however I found it was surprisingly light in cut for such a coarse grit, and even bearing down on a rusted and pitted piece of rounded surface steel bar simply cleaned up the surface, leaving some of the deeper pitting. A hard grinding wheel or flap disk of similar grit size would have aggressively cut right down through them with the same pressure. On the same piece of steel the strip disk did remove red paint (see first photo). Paint removal on shaped steel worked well. I also tried it on a heavily rusted forged blacksmith tong. It did a nice job of cleaning off most of the rust. While the pad did wear rapidly in these tests, that turned out to be an advantage, as the wear fitted the complex shape of the tong jaws, and allowed rust removal even in nooks, and dips without changing the shape of the hand forging. By comparison, in a later test of a flap disk (not shown) that other disk ground off many hand forged details and the edges of the disk ate into the knuckle when it hit.I also tried grinding paint and plating off of a flat piece of sheet metal with the strip disk. (see second photo) That worked well, however disk wear was quite a bit more rapid than it would be with a good quality flapdisk.I also tried it on a piece of weathered pine, where the strip disk did a good job of cleaning up the surface and leaving the rough lumber smooth. But the disk did appear to load up quite a bit (see 3rd photo) with pitchy sanding dust. I don't think that stopped it from cutting, and I didn't get any burning. Probably the open mesh allows a fair amount of buildup without becoming solid. Still, I don't think this use is ideal. The rapid wear of these disks might make them less economical than a good quality flap disk.I think that where these disks would really shine (so to speak!) is in cleaning rust and paint off of highly contoured metal surfaces. The disk will wear into the shape of whatever you are sanding, allowing use right up into inside corners. And on complex surfaces where you want to preserve detail, this type of disk is what I'd choose.

These paint stripper discs are a game changer for anyone tackling rust, paint, or grime removal. The durable silicon carbide grains make short work of stubborn materials while maintaining control, which is essential when working on delicate surfaces. They fit perfectly on a standard 4-inch angle grinder, and the size is ideal for both small and large projects. One of the standout features is how efficiently these discs handle various surfaces without causing damage. Whether stripping old paint from wood, cleaning up a rusty metal frame, or even tackling oxide buildup, they deliver smooth and consistent results every time. The pack of 12 ensures you have plenty of discs to get through multiple projects, and they hold up surprisingly well under heavy use. The material’s quality is evident as the discs don’t clog up easily, making the process faster and more efficient. These are versatile enough for DIY tasks or professional jobs, and the value for the price is excellent. If you’re looking for reliable and durable grinding discs, these are definitely worth considering.
