This set has been super useful for small projects. The files come in different shapes, so it’s easy to get into tight spots or smooth out rough edges on metal and even some wood. They feel solid in your hand, not flimsy, and the handles give a decent grip. They're great for light to moderate work, but if you’re planning on heavy-duty filing, you might want something a bit more robust. For general DIY or hobby work, though, they get the job done nicely.

As an average Do-It-Yourselfer, having a set of files of various shapes and sizes around the house is a plus. Though I do not use files frequently, when I do need one, the ones that I have are usually not the best size and shape for the job. Thus, I ordered this set of files. Its variety of shapes and sizes will fulfill almost all my requirements – if they are of a lasting and durable quality. Are they? After I received the files I tried various ones of them on pine, oak, aluminum tubing, 1/4" stainless steel rod, and Trex fencing material – a dense and highly durable manmade material. (The advertisement says that the files can be used on glass. I did not try that).I have included pictures of some of the various materials I used the files on to give you an idea of how efficacious they were and what the blades looked like after filing with them. While the files did work on the Trex, wood, and the metal items, they worked best on the metals. They did file down the Trex, but the filings quickly clogged the files. The same clogging was true for the wood, but not as quickly, especially on the harder oak. The good news is that the wire brush that comes with the kit easily removed the filings. The files worked best on the steel rod and aluminum tubing. I used one of the small round files on the steel rod and, with a little effort, managed to cut a noticeable groove into the steel (see picture). I included a couple of pictures of the aluminum tubing, one showing the jaggedness left on the end of it after being cut with a saw, and the smoothness of that same end after filing it down with one of the small flat-bladed files and one of the small round files. It turned out well. Another plus using the files on metal was that they did not clog their blades to any degree like the wood and Trex did. I also used the large flat file on the outside of another part of the aluminum tubing (see picture). You can see that the serrations are quite noticeable. You would need to use one of the small files (or other grinding means) on it to smooth it out.I do like the rubber-like material on the handles. It does add comfort while using the files. The wire brush included in the kit is also a nice touch. The bristles are stiff enough to clean the blades of the files and the handle is long enough to easily grasp and hold on to.It should also be noted that though the kit is advertised as a 17-Piece kit, which it technically is (18-Piece if you include the storage case), there are only 12 unique files in the kit. That is because the kit includes 2 identical small round files, 2 identical small flat-bladed files with square ends, and 3 identical small flat-bladed files with pointed ends (see pictures). One other thing to note. The storage case is a good addition to the kit, allowing the files to be conveniently and compactly stored. I have had no problems with the zipper so far. The case also has a loop on the top of it, about 4” long, that allows it to be hung on a hook or nail out of the way. Each file, and the brush, are held in place by an elastic strap around the handles. The kit also has small pockets in it that the ends of the files fit into to keep them straight. All of this is nice, but I have noticed that the elastic straps are so tight that it takes more than a little effort to remove and then replace the files. I must use both hands to do so. But more worrisome than that is the blades of the files, particularly the large files, rubbing against the elastic straps as they are removed and replaced in the case. As careful as I am, I know that sooner rather than later, if I am not careful, the elastic straps will be cut in two by the files.Do the positives outweigh the negatives as listed above? Yes, for someone such as myself, a very average Do-It-Yourselfer, (certainly not a professional) this kit will serve my needs. That is especially true given its price, $17.99 at the time I ordered it, a good buy; and now listed at $15.99, an even better buy.

This is a nice set of full sized and needle files for general purpose work. The Listing details the contents, and I must say that I appreciate the zippered tool pouch it comes with. This protects the files from knocking around in my truck tool chest, and kept them together in one place.I have only used them on aluminum and brass bar stock so far, but they worked exactly as expected. The file comb is a nice touch. The bristles are fine enough to use on the needle files. The handles are comfortably shaped and the black surfaces have just a slight grip/tack to ensure a good grip. There are 12 different needle files in the set, and they were useful in smoothing out a small plastic hole in a battery go box.My only criticism is that it would have been nice to have a fine flat file in the set. The existing flat file is medium course. If you are looking for a general purpose set of files for home or small business use, this would be a good beginning set.

When I opened these, I was concerned that they were so fine. For wood/plastic etc, I expected something more coarse, maybe more like a rasp. I got a chance to try them out last night and they are surprisingly effective. They made quick chamfers and didn't clog immediately. Infact, I didn't really feel like they clogged at all when using them on wood. I tried a little bit of plastic and as long as I didn't apply a lot or force, they cleaned out enough to continue to cut. The cleaning brush is a great touch so before putting them back in the case, I cleaned them up (that will help keep the case nice) and it only took a few seconds to do. The rubber handles feel nice to the touch, I generally have a grip on the handle with a finger or two on the back of the file, but the shape still worked for me without any discomfort.

The Devvicoo file set is perfect for a home workshop or hobbyist/maker, with all the files one is likely to need in a well-made case that makes them easy to store and convenient. The rubberized handles are a nice feature with a shape that is comfortable and provides a good grip when aggressively filing. I love the needle files and will use them frequently for my maker hobbies. The cutting edges seem sharp and effective although most seem too fine to be appropriate for wood working. Still for hard materials and even plastics the set will satisfy the requirements of most projects. As far as durability is concerned only time will tell, but at the price they are offered they could just about be considered disposable. Add a couple Rasp files and you would have about everything that could need to be file covered.
