I gave one to my sister. Mine fits nicely in my hand. Have not used it yet since it’s still winter, but it will be used a lot in a month or so. Both my sister and I do a lot of gardening almost continuously here in California and need an easy way to remove plants from the cells they are planted in rather than trying to squeeze the plants out and potentially damaging roots. Looking forward to using this.

Worked well to remove seedling out of square plug trays without damaging them. These tongs are made of stainless steel, so they do not rust. You need a strong grip to squeeze them around the seedling you are trying to remove from the seedling tray. I was able to remove the rooted seedling square plugs without damaging them to pot them up to larger pots. These would not work on round plugs but work well on square plugs because the side of the tongs are flat. Makes the work of bumping up seedlings from square plug trays much easier. I am still looking for some tongs that I can use to extract round plugs.

These can work with the right-sized pots. But they aren't an improvement over just using fingers to push up from the bottom of the pot.

These tongs are a lot more heavy-duty than I was expecting. They are actually kind of difficult to squeeze if your hands are arthritic like mine are. But they would be excellent tools to have in a greenhouse or used at a transplanting station. They are great for picking up soil blocks and for getting into seed-starting trays to lift out the transplants without damaging the tender seedlings. I’m sure they’ll have plenty of use in the kitchen as well. I haven’t tried them for lifting out air-fried items yet, so I don’t know if they retain a lot of heat, but I think they’ll work well for that purpose.

While they got the job done, they are very stiff, the point is dangerous and can easily cut you, as well as poke a hole in your seed starting cells if you accidentally push them in too far.

When transferring seedlings to a pot or the garden, experts say to hold the tops by one seed leaf, while you loosen the soil around the base with a fork, chopstick, or other similar tool. This tongs solution really makes everything easier by not risking the plant roots, stem, or leaves while transferring these small plants out of their tiny pots to their new homes. Bonus is that these can be sanitized between uses, so if it turns out that you have some soil with a bacteria or a plant with a virus, you won’t spread it between plants. A downside is that you have to have a pretty strong grip strength to get these to close. These are almost for commercial use rather than home use! They are amazing tools that take some getting used to. These would be a good gift for any gardener who starts their plants from seeds.

I both grow and purchase a lot of seedlings each year for transplant into my raised garden beds, and I always seem to have some frustration in removing the seedlings without damage from their trays. These tongs are just the ticket to make it easier, as I had been using a knife to slide around the edges of the seedling trays and fortunately no longer need to resort to that method. This comes in both a 6.7-inch and 8.7-inch version, and I decided to get the longer version so that it can be used with taller seedlings, especially since the blades on the taller version are just as wide and deep as the shorter version. They are very lightweight at 3.7-ounces each, and they are made of a spring steel, so they rebound back to their original shape after each use, and they don’t have any sharp edges or points.Fifteen bucks for the pair of them seems like a reasonable price to me to help get your seedings transplanted with minimal damage and which gives you the opportunity to reuse the empty trays.

As it does not taper to match the of most seedling trays, you cannot reach all the way in without destroying your tray. Because of this it does a poor job of removing the seedling and breaks it up
