Lower rating for sturdiness just because it is balsa wood which is not the sturdiest of materials.I make model railroad and RPG terrain and this selection of balsa is great for the finishing details on my projects.

I was a little leery about this having read some of the 1 star reviews. Fortunately, I went ahead and ordered it as the most cost effective solution for a model I'm building.The negative reviews seem to be from folks that haven't used balsa wood before. It's SUPPOSED to be soft and it's not intended for use where strength is required. If you try to cut it with most hobby knives, it will crush. Best to cut it with a single-edge razor blade using a sawing motion, or a very fine toothed Xacto-type saw. Then it's fine.I'm very happy with this purchase.

My son needed these shipped to him while away at college. He's an architecture student and wanted to save himself a trip to the art store in town. He said the supplies arrived safely and were just what he needed for multiple building projects!

This is a delicate easily broken piece of wood.but great on filling in gaps to a wooden projects , so if that is what you intend to do. The reviews I read didn’t specifically says it’s for what usage. Yet I was able to use them and made it sturdier by applying mod podge glue or any paper glue on the wood stick finished project .

Worked pretty well for what I needed. I was making crown molding for my miniature dollhouse. Only thing is you have to cut after you glue or it splits funny

Although it's not exactly what I needed it’ll work for Windows & door trim. I have though worked with this style & size of balsa wood & it's a good quality wood. Would I purchase this again you bet.
