I attempt to hand carve small Santa’s for my collection and occasionally give as gifts to special individuals. These wood pieces have been uniform in size, shape, color ad density making carving easier and safer. This also adds to a better overall consistent outcome in a shorter time frame. Once the carvings are completed, they are hand painted. I’ve found that the pieces also take the paint well and with a little care and allowing for like colored painted section to throughly dry abutted painted sections do not bleed there colors into the adjacent sections. I have not done price comparisons on the same product from different sellers but given my success with these particular pieces I’m happy with these wooden pieces and don’t want to bother or take a chance on different suppliers/ providers.

This is my first experience with buying whittling wood. It looks great and the three blocks I have used has been easy smooth wood to whittle. Will be purchasing more as time goes on.

Now, I'm not a professional carver by ANY stretch of the imagination, but these wood pieces are not the easiest to carve. It's a soft wood which you'd think would be great for carving, however, there are so many variations in the striations of the wood that if you need to carve against the grain, good luck and I hope your tool sharpening skills are on point. Even for simple designs, tools need to be sharpened regularly otherwise they lose their effectiveness and you're just muscling your way through essentially.
