We got this set of drum mallets for an inexpensive drum.The mallets work great and are smooth. Even use by kids didn't cause any damage to the drum head.The length is good and the mallets are straight.Recommended.

I ordered these mallets to use for cymbal rolls on a drum kit. I like the harder felt on these versus the soft felt mallets I usually use for cymbals. The mallets are shorter, and use lighter wood than my drum sticks. To me, they feel slight off balance from my usual grip.The harder felt works well in a live band situation. I don't have to work as hard to get the swells I want, although there's some noticeable mallet strike sound. Other band members don't notice the sound.I know these are label as tympani mallets, but I think they could work well on most instruments where a subtle sound is not needed.

I ordered these mallets to use for suspended cymbal rolls/swells. Im used to other mallets that have soft cotton ball that you don't hear the actual stroke of the stick. These would work great for timpani, marimba or even on drums, but its not the best for cymbal rolls. I think the word soft needs to be removed from the description because these are not soft at all.
