I like to keep track of my family’s car tires by measuring tread wear and checking pressure on a regular basis. It is always better to catch uneven wear and other tire problems before they become a safety issue. To measure tread depth, I had been using a dial caliper but it was hard to take measurements around the tire because of the wheel well clearances. These small LUMITECO depth gauges looked like a good solution. The three gauges arrived in a small closable plastic box about the size once used for audio cassettes. Along with the gauges were a set of four tire valve caps, a nice little bonus. The gauges bodies and stems are made of stainless steel and the base and indicator are plastic. Construction is of good quality. The gauges measure 3.25 inches long, making it easy to measure tread depth in several places with the tire on the car. There are markings every 32nd of an inch spiraled around the indicator so all you have to do is check which marking comes closest to the end of the metal barrel to get your reading. Green, yellow and red backgrounds indicate safe, marginal, and dangerous tread depths. There is enough friction to keep the indicator from moving as you remove it from the tire and bring it out where you can see it better. Here are some tips if you aren’t knowledgeable about tires. Tires have wear indicators in the form of 2/32nd inch raised bars across each tread groove, so it is important to not take your measurement over one of those bumps. Just take two measurements an inch apart in the same tread groove and use the deepest measurement if they are different. Also, make sure to take groove depth measurements across the width of the tire, and around the circumference, to check for irregular wear. And keep in mind that treadwear is not the only thing to keep track of. Keep the tires inflated to the amount specified on the label on your driver door jamb, not the maximum pressure written on the tire itself. Keep in mind that tires can look and measure fine, but once they are 8-10 years old they should be replaced because of age and its effect on the rubber compounds and internal components.

As someone who regularly checks tire tread depth to ensure my car is safe on the road, this set of tire tread gauges has been a game-changer. First off, the color-coded markings are super helpful. It's no longer a hassle trying to figure out what the measurements are. Red means it's getting low, yellow tells me it's getting close to needing replacement, and green is great. It's a simple visual guide that makes checking tread depth a lot quicker and easier. The accuracy is spot on. Calibrated in 1/32 inch increments, it’s easy to know exactly where your tires stand. The clear, easy-to-read numbers make it simple to get the right measurements, and it really gives peace of mind knowing when to replace tires before they get too dangerous. The pocket clip is a nice touch, allowing me to store the gauge easily in my car, so I always have it on hand when I need it. Plus, with four extra valve caps included, I’m set for a while. What I appreciate most is how convenient and versatile this gauge is. It works for a wide range of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles. It’s perfect for multi-vehicle households, and having three gauges in the pack makes it great for checking multiple vehicles quickly. I feel a lot more prepared on long drives or road trips, knowing I can easily check my tire tread for safety.

Car guys love gadgets that keep their rides running and rolling smooth. Knowing how much tread you have left on your tires is essential information, especially when planning a long road trip.In the past, I've used a dime and the Mark 1 eyeball to guestimate the amount of tread remaining, and it was a passable approach. However, when I saw these little gems, I put the dime in my piggy bank and brought a set home. What I like most about the gauges are their simplicity and clear markings. The color coding is a very nice touch since you can tell if you are good, in a cautionary stage, or need to procure new rubber for your ride ASAP.I also like that the company sells them as a set of three. One is already in my car, and I am giving the other two to my son and daughter. The set also included four tire valve caps. They are always good to have since the caps love to vanish when I check the air pressure.Put one of these in every car and keep an accurate measure of how much tread life you have left.

These gauges stick just a little bit, but they're still much better than the old Abe Lincoln's head on a penny method of measuring tread wear. The color coding is nice and works well for most road tires, but check the manufacturer's specs for your tires, especially if you use all-terrain tires on a truck or SUV.

I certainly did not get this for the case and my rating is not based upon the disappointing case. I do have other cases that I can replace this one with, so I am not that disappointed.I verified the measurements with an accurate ruler. I like that the gauge on which the measurements are written have a color showing what is acceptable, what is at a stage where it is recommended to replace, and the dangerous levels of tread. I would be fine with just the colors for the most part, but having an engineering type of mind, I want to know the actual depth.I really have no reservations about recommending these. They are for the most part like many of the others with each being at a price of two dollars each. I prefer this type over the digital type since I do not use the gauge often and when I do, I would very much dislike taking it out of the package and finding that the battery was dead or even worse... that it leaked and destroyed the gauge. Having a manual gauge like this is the best option for me. Simple, Straightforward, Reliable.

this sure beats the old shove a coin in the treads method and gives one a real reading.since tread is a safety concern, I think this is essential in your vehicle maintenance kit
