i bought a variable power supply also and made some adjustments -at 5 v a 1/4 x2" bolt tends to fall off .My purpose was to build a device to pick up mill/lathe shavings then release them into a container w/o having to scrub them off .making a handle with a switch and an extension to get into crevices. From what i have tried today it can do all that .dont think you can rip the bumper off your car though! Picked up a #2 phillips with 12 volts no problem. at 18v it was stronger but began to get pretty warm ,so only tested that momentarily. would buy again

I doubt seriously it is rated to 88 pounds, but it works ok for my light duty job.

I used this to make a powered plasma circle cutter holds just fine. It does let go after about 5 minutes from getting to hot but that's just how electromagnets work

This "40Kg 88LB 12V 49mm Electric Lifting Magnet Electromagnet Solenoid" worked well, meaning the magnet was very strong, but after having it on for about 15-20 minutes it got super hot, 149 F degrees to be exact. I touched it with my hand and it was very hot to the touch, then I used a infrared thermometer and confirmed it was nearly 150 F.If heat isn't an issue then I guess it is ok. My application had it placed in the back of an cabinet in an RV and that was a fire hazard in my opinion.

These are crazy powerful and mine has noticeable grab even as low as 0.5V. But if you slide a piece of paper between this and a nice thick piece of steel, it looses significant strength. There must be no gap at all between this electromagnet and a very flat and smooth piece of mild steel (the most magnetic kind of steel) for maximum grab ("suction, as they call it). Then it works fantastically well. This is fairly weak at grabbing from far away and pulling things in. When a piece of steel physically contacts the energized electromagnet, the magnetic flux starts building up. After about 1 second of contact it will finally reach the very high lifting strength.

Product works as advertised but doesn’t hold up the weight as advertized.
