These WELDER ELITE Paint Stripping wheels do an amazing job stripping paint and cleaning surfaces without taking metal material off. Used one for a welding project I had and was very impressed with their performance. I used one wheel for the project and the wheel still has about half use left. Durable and a great value that saves time prepping material for welding.

My preferred abrasive for welding prep or cleanup is an 80-grit resin fiber disc followed by a red, 80-grit non-woven disc. I wanted to compare these so-called "paint stripper" discs, which cost three times as much as the average non-woven or resin fiber (sandpaper) disc. Do they last three times as long? After a short test removing rust on some steel plate, I'd say they do last longer due to their greater thickness and open, anti-clog texture. They also have a solid, fiber-reinforced plastic backing pad. Both resin fiber and non-woven are a poor choice for removing surface coatings that clog. These discs are specifically designed to prevent clogging. Other than that, the resultant finish is indistinguishable from a red (80 grit) non-woven disc. So to get the maximum lifespan, I'll reserve these discs for paint, caulk and glue removal. As to the three different colored discs in the package, all appear to cut at the same rate and leave the same scratch pattern. When I placed the order, I mistakenly assumed that they were three different grit sizes. It does state in the description that the discs are "#46" grit.
