These Abu's are still some of the best. Smooth, comfortable, definitely dependable. This model is still made in Sweden, and the craftmanship is excellent. The thumb release is great, as you also hold the spool at the same time. The drag is rated at 15lbs, but definitely feels like more. I use these in both fresh, and salt. I've owned Abu Garcia 5500, 6500, 6600 in both right, and lefty. For the price, you'll be hard press to find a better reel.

The Abu Garcia Ambassaduer.. This reel is awesome! The retrieve is smooth. Casting is really smooth too. Line capacity is amazing (mine is backed with 30lb braid to 14lb fluoro now). I took mine to Venice Pier, and was able to break it in with this little leopard shark. I think this reel is for someone who knows how to fish with baitcasters and not so much a beginner. You can’t adjust the brakes, only the tension. It’s a little tricky but if you can find YOUR settings, you’ll enjoy this. It isn’t hard but relying only on the tension and your thumb as brakes, I honestly feel that comes from practice with the low profile baitcasters. This reel offers 15lbs of max drag. It has a clicker that you can switch on/off. The retrieve is pretty fast. One thing I would change if I could is probably the crank. I feel that it’s a little small. But that’s just because my low profile reels have an extended crank (all Abu Garcia’s). Don’t let the online photos or even mine fool the size of the reel. It’s actually a good size and you can palm it comfortably. I really like that it’s made in Sweden. Thumbs up to that.

Much better quality then the ones made in China. Abu Garcia spinning reels are garbage because I’ve had each one break the anti-reverse lever inside so I was hesitant to order a bait cast reel from them.(I prefer Shimano spin reels- The Sustain they make has landed many Kings on it) However I’m using this Abu for jigging lingcod/rockfish and this Ambassador seems hard to break. I found the drag to be just lil plastic pieces that rub to slow the fight that’s why I got the 2year insurance coverage. Drag seems the first to go on this reel, hasn’t yet but we will see. One plus quality is the push down Large thumb bail, instead of the silly push other levelwinds have with the tiny push pin to release on the left plate. I adore this feature. If anyone knows of a website to order better parts please let me know. Thanks again Amazon I owe you a fish

The ABU Ambassadeur C3 and C4 reels still made in Sweden are the best value in classical round bait casting reels available today. They will last for years if properly taken care of and perform well in fresh and salt water. Regrettably, Pure Fishing has elected to put the ABU Garcia name on its line of cheap "S" Series reels made in China bringing down the reputation of the entire line. Hopefully Pure Fishing will be sold to a company that better respects the heritage of the ABU Garcia line.

When using a bait casting reel, if your line guide doesn't move during casting, it causes friction between the line and the line guide thereby reducing the distance of your cast. This is one of the few reels in which the guide moves with the line as it peels off the spool allowing for longer, smoother casts and better spooling as you start the retrieve. If the guide doesn't move with the cast, it could be at the opposite side of the spool from the line where it is spooling onto the reel making the next cast even worse. A definite plus for a baiit caster. I won't even mention metal gears and construction instead of cheap plastic. I have 3 of these 6600s and use them to cast heavy musky baits and bucktails.

Great product. Very smooth and great feel. Not to big and cast like a charm. First time user of a round baitcaster amd I had no problems with it at all. I would only suggest the abu garcia power handle to go with it. Definitely recommend
