This AC Delco D663 voltage regulator failed miserably. Not only did it growl, hum and buzz, it also did not provide charging current to the battery. I reinstalled the old 1970 voltage regulator which works perfectly.

This was an exact reproduction of the original 1966 part that I was looking for to go with my 63 amp alternator. For some reason it didn't function properly after installation. I ended up buying one of the later electronic replacements that I really didn't want to use and it worked perfectly. I'm still not sure why the D663 didn't work and I haven't given up on it yet. I'm trying to find out if it needed to be polarized or not. The instruction sheet said not to but it was the same instructions that came with the later electronic part. I know that the electronic part is not supposed to be polarized.

Been using Delco 1119519 voltage regulator on same car since 1965! Finally went bad so I ordered 2 of these D663 replacements! Neither would charge and light stayed on when running! Sent both back and got a D9212 AWI solid state (which I really didn’t want because I wanted to stay with the 2 resistors underneath) and all problems immediately solved ! I read all the bad reviews and though they could not be correct, BUT THEY ARE!!! Come on Delco, you are better than this!!

Had a parasitic draw, replace this part and the draw changed, but still there. Spent two days trying to track down the short, eventually gave up and bought one from NAPA for 89 bucks - problem solved instantly. This part looked like NOS, it was the old mechanical style regulator with relays - kind of neat. But had a short to ground. The new one is electronic, works perfectly.

The regulator did not work at all. Voltage ran at 19+ volts at idle while the regulator buzzed and squeaked and even started to smoke
