(Meant for use with permanent split capacitor type motors, All Hydro farm inline fans & Active Air Booster fans.) it will correctly & precisely adjust the speed of centrifugal fans without causing the motor to hum. These controllers are more sensitive than any on the market & are compact & built to last. Includes an internal, electronic auto-resetting circuit breaker rated for 15 amps.

This review is specifically for the variable speed ACTIVE AIR ACSC Duct Fan Speed Adjuster, the one with the blue speed band on the front and the open vent on the top. I bought this to use with the Mainstays 20" High Speed Fan that i purchased from Wally World. Amazon's tendency to mix reviews of different items makes it very difficult to judge how well a product will work for a particular application. So I took a gamble with this one and ordered it. I needed some way to slow this fan down just a little bit. The fan generates blade noise even on low speed, which is normal, but irritating when the fan is used in a small room.I had to rotate the receptacle in order to allow the fan plug to hang down when plugged into the device, because the receptacle is rather high on a wall. Plugged it in, plugged the fan into it, and turned the fan on. I only had to slow the fan a little in order to reduce the noise level to an acceptable level. With the mixed up reviews for different items, and not knowing how the devices were utilized by purchasers, it's almost impossible to determine why some of them melted and/or burned up. Especially if the items were not used properly or abused. I'm using this item as it was designed to be used, and it's working properly. Your experience may differ. So far, the device is working exactly as advertised. The fan is slowed, the device is not generating any excessive heat, and it appears to be worth having purchased it. It is a variable speed control. It does NOT have three preset speeds, High, Medium, and Low. You can vary the speed from Off to High, or any speed in between.July 8, 2019Still working as advertised. The device is barely warm to the touch. So far, so good.July 27, 2019Still working as advertised. The device is still barely warm to the touch. Just a guess, but I suspect that the melting/burning issue that some folk have experienced may be due to running fans at their highest setting and using the device to slow them down. I've been using the fan at it's lowest setting and slowing it down even more. If you run the fan at its highest setting, the device has to stop a greater amount of amperage, which creates more heat, and might lead to the unit failing. Just my 2 cents.

Checked many reviews on this, and went with the safe bet over saving a few bucks. I'm very happy with the speed controller. I bought an inline fan at the same time, but the fan came first. I set up the fan, and it was so loud that I couldn't have comfortably used it as close to a living space as I needed to, but I wanted to set it up just to compare sound levels. Once the speed controller came, I was having fun playing with the dial ;-). I now have the fan running at about 70%, and the noise is less than 50%, while giving me all the ventilation I need. There is no hum, and the only sound audible a few feet away is of the large amount of air moving thru the duct-work. It is a smooth-turning dial, not a click-type with a set number of speeds, so it is very easy to get just the amount of air current that you want.

It worked perfectly with the [New Hydropronic 4" Inline Fan With Carbon Filter Combo Odor Control Air Quietby Sky Enterprise USA]. Which is great because this duct fan only has one speed...wide open. Now I can adjust accordingly. That being said I'm a satisfied customer. But in case anyone is curious I tried it on a different duct fan I have to see if it was compatible...and I couldn't get it to work. The duct fan is the [Inline Fan TT100 4" 115CFM 2 Speed by DirectFans]. Of course this fan already has 2 speeds, so you'd only need the speed adjuster if you wanted very precise control...but still the product says [Duct Fan Speed Adjuster] so I thought they would be compatible.UPDATETheir All Star Hydroponics has awesome customer service. Responded to my amazon email in like 10 minutes. The guy said the 115CFM probably has a starter relay and the speed controller doesn't have enough energy to pick it up. I'm pretty sure the starter relay is part of the fan's built-in 2 speed ciruit, so I would advise potential buyers to make sure the fan they use this with only has one speed.

Ive been running this with a Active Air 4 inch In-Line Fan for one month 24/7. I have no buzz or other unwanted noise from my fan on a low speed. I spent a bit of time (as I always do) reading reviews, and the biggest complaint I read from consumers with these type of products is the hum one gets (from the fan) from putting a restrictor on the fan such as this. No issues with this combo.Pros: Inexpensive. Ease of use.Cons: None, really. Seems lightweight, usually amounts to cheaply built, but it seems to work as intended.

The biggest concern with these units (of any brand in my research) is an audible hum that some of the cheaper models have. This unit has no discernible noise at all and functions as advertised.I'm using it with a 6" 400 CFM inline, and it reduces the audible volume of the fan effectively and dials down the CFM so my space (which exhausts to the outside) doesn't have a noticeable negative pressure differential like I'm getting sucked out of a hole in an airplane. For reference, my wattage indicator using the (assuming a 1:1 CFM reduction) reads:High (Max) - 112w - 400 CFMMed - 92w - 328 CFMLow - 54w - 192 CFM(Min) - 44w - 155 CFM

This works great with the inline fan set-up I have running. The fan is a little too powerful for the space I am using it in so I needed something to cut down on power and also, hopefully, sound. This has done just that. So easy to use, just plug your fan into this and then plug this in and you are good to go. I have been running at about 50% and it is working fine. I have only had it for a few weeks now so I don't know how it will stand up long term but I will be sure to update this if I do have any issues in the future.

Siento que la velocidad del ventilador que compré es un poco baja... Porque siento como que la diferencia de niveles no es tan delicada.... Pero cumple bien su función.

this speed control add to our inline fan saved us money and made things more efficient definitely worth the money a durable product quite happy with its function and usefulness. allows you to set a very low speed to and plug in inline fan as well as its max speed.

I was going to say that the picture did not match the product, but after i came back here the colour of the picture has changed to the blue dial and now matches the dial.after using it once for a few seconds it seems to work well dial up and down works just fine with a 6" inline fan.

Works as intended. I run a 4" inline fan for both exhaust and intake. Running on a controller between Med and Low.the "Hum" sound is normal as when the RPM of the inline fans are being slowed down further than what they're meant to do, need a slower fan, buy a smaller fan! I find it makes the fan overall more quieter. I found lots of purposes for this fan and it's great to have.Cons:Definitely boxy style not as bad but the outlet is on the bottom so you have to allow for the plug in and then your fan to plug into that.It has a small hole in the top for mounting.
