Rogue River Tools Aluminum Wool is oil free, long strand wool that is crumble resistant and made from the highest quality material. Ideal for fine wood finishes, cleaning glass, or brightening dull metal surfaces. Reusable and designed to easily produce and maintain a professional looking finish. This material is so gentle it can be used directly on glass surfaces without sprays. On metal surfaces, the Aluminum wool brightens by removing only the oxidized layer of metal without scratching even softest metals. Ideal for use with the sensitive surfaces found in aviation and marine cleaning, polishing, and rebuilding. Excellent for marine or outdoor uses since worries about steel wool fibers rusting or staining exterior surfaces are not an issue. Contains one skein or wad of continuous fibers that can be unwound and cut for specific usage. USA product, Made in Europe!

Great product! Made removing rust very easy. Didn't scratch the other metal either. I also used it to make my own home made rubies as tiny is just aluminum oxide with a bit of chromium for the color. It worked like a charm! Attached is a picture of the rubies (under UV light to prove they are real rubies) made with this aluminum wool.

Edit: used to stuff the access points for pipes into existing manufactured home exterior. Aluminum wool does not rust. It has held up well and keeps critters out. Does what it says.

I was actually looking for aluminum pads, like steel wool but aluminum. The great advantage of aluminum is that it is great for removing surface rust without affecting or scratching the finish of the item. I have had great use for these. I would suggest to be cautious and test on an unseen place first to make sure that it does not had an adverse effect on your item, but in my experience I have had no problems. I think this bag of aluminum threats will serve as well and it has, but I would give a better rating to aluminum pads, if I could find them. A closing comment, if you have deep rust and you want to actually remove some material (and the finish as well), they use steel wool of an appropriate coarseness. These are really two different products for two different uses.

Never used aluminum wool before. Difficult to find. Using it on a model ship I am building. Very fine and gets into everything. Not sure it is worth the effort to find it…

Came quickly and was easy to cut a chunk to stuff into a gap. Course enough I don't think the mice will chew it.

It's not a huge amount (a clump about 5 x 8 inches...but this is a clean, nice product to work with--cutting off wisps of needed-amounts with scissors is a pleasure. I'm trying to STOP MICE getting into a (vintage) Airstream....gunked this up with Locktite expanding dripping foam...and, tho' potentially messy to work with...seems to create a aluminum-wire wool-foundation - held together with fast drying, hard white nearly solid FOAM (but with some flex). ....I read that mice might eventually chew through FOAM but don't like to chew through wire wool ...ALUMINUM should not rust--along with remainder of the vintage Airstream--THAT makes PRICE worthwhile--the fine strands of (MUCH cheaper) regular wire wool would probably look awful and disintegrate very fast.
