After 25 years it was time to get a new garbage disposal. I wanted a strong yet quiet one. This one has worked well.I am a 68 year old woman and I was able to change it out myself, with a little help from my husband. It was too heavy for me to lift in place while laying on my back. He lifted it, I helped line it up and twist it into place. I watched serval you.tube videos so I knew what to do and what typical problems I could face.I do recommend this, I am very happy with my purchase.

On the plus side, it is certainly quiet, easy to install and very reasonably priced, when on sale. With that said, this top-of-the-line, American Standard, 1 & 1/4 HP waste disposal, Model AS-12, does not fully dispose of typical fruit waste like bananas, strawberries and apple cores. I never even attempted pits, bones, or corn cobs. However, I did grind about 20 pounds of ice to hopefully sharpen the blades, to no avail. No matter how long I leave it running, up to one full minute with water running, food waste does not get cut up sufficiently to flow out the drain, and thus requires removal by hand. I've never experienced such poor performance in ANY waste disposal my entire life. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime, Free Returns, because that is exactly where this is headed. BUYER BEWARE: Avoid This Very Poor Performing Product!

Seems like a good garbage disposal. It was very easy to install also. I would buy this again. I recommend this disposal. It seems like it is made with quality and will last a long time.

This is an excellent disposal, very reasonably priced. It is very strong but very quiet (you can hear it but you can also hear a conversation over it). The only thing that wasn't perfectly designed is the magnetic collar that is designed to go around the mouth of the disposal to catch metal objects that fall into the disposal. My plumber couldn't get the collar to go on in a way that would allow the disposal to be installed in my sink. This isn't an essential feature of the disposal, but I would have liked it to work since it was a small metal knife that destroyed my old disposal.

Quiet and strong motor with quality construction. The magnet is a good idea but it's not strong enough to trap a utensil from falling into the grinder. Easy installation. Parts do not include plumbers putty which is needed to seal.
