Product Description

Sponge Filter

How Does It Work?

Sponge filter uses bubbles of air from an external air pump, or an integral water pump to draw water through the sponge.

What Maintenance Does It Require?

The sponge need to be rinsed about every 2 to 4 weeks. It’s helpful to wash the sponge gently with water from the fish tank instead of tap water.

It is good to replace the sponge after 3 to 6 months’ usage as the holes of sponge is gradually clogged by the tiny debris.

Works very well! I decided not to use the check value that came with it as well as added an air stone and it works great! It’s so quiet I can barely hear it running!

Wow! I just got this today and I can honestly say without hooking it up that this is going to be a really good filter! It’s sturdy, heavy and is durable! I bought the one pack and I’m going to put this in my tank for a couple of days to see how it goes but I love it right now and I’m sure my betta fish will also! This is a must buy for such a good price!UPDATE: Added it to my 10 gallon tank and it cleared up the water within an hour and the water has been crystal clear ever since!!! I ended up buying the four pack from them a couple of days ago to use in my other tanks and they are a little smaller then the singular 10 gallon one but they are the perfect size as to not take up a lot of room in a ten gallon. In a five gallon it may seem a little big but that’s perfect because you know it’ll filter out the water without leaving it cloudy because it’s small. THIS IS A MUST HAVE IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON GETTING MORE THEN ONE FISH IN SEPARATE TANKS!!!! I’ll be coming back for more in the future

So it performs really well in my opinion. I use it to add air and some sort of filtration to a 40 gallon trough. I've had this item now for about 5 years now, cleaning and changing the sponge every so often. And it still works as it did the first year I have had it. If you want to change the size you could make it longer or smaller depending on how many middle piece you want to add or take out. I have one that is about 8 inches tall and another about 4 inches tall. It has a nice weight to it and never had an issue with it floating up and away.

When the bubbles are coming to the surface, it does agitate the surface water without creating a strong current. Surface slime was a problem and it was solved. Maybe with too much force, but for me the problem was fixed right away by just clipping a sponge to the side of my tank next to where the bubbles reach the surface. No modifications needed, this filter currently working great for my 12 gallon tank. I'm only using the check valve since my air pump is below the tank water line. This filter is perfect for bettas or any fish that aren't strong swimmers. I'm assuming this filter will create too much surface disturbance for tanks smaller than 10 gallons, since it is agitating my 12 gallon tank's surface a bit too much. But those are just minor things that isn't really bothering me. This filter is really good and I recommend it.

This sponge filter works well with an air pump. I have had it running for over a month, and it is cleaning the snail and shrimp talk well. It has a smaller fottprint and doesn't take up a bunch of space.

Super easy to clean in tank water from the water changes. To ensure you don't muck up the tank with all of the debris this thing sucks up, I recommend slipping a plastic bag over it to get tank water, squeeze it in the bag to clean it, never rinse it under the tap. Only clean it with tank water. The tank is healthy, and looks great and has been established for a while now. Great air powered filter for the money. I use this along with a small tabletop canister, from sun sun and another smaller 2 sponge filter on a 30 gallon freshwater planted tank. I got these to increase air exchange with the bubbles, and the 2 sponge filter to increase flow because tbh my plants grow super fast and I suck at trimming in a timely fashion. When I clean this filter in used tank water I squeeze it til the water is chocolate brown and then I just stick it right back on the filter base.
