Establishing the Nitrogen Cycle
If you are establishing a substrate for the first time:
- Borrow a filter, water pump, small rocks or plants from a friend who has an established aquaria to jump start the cultivation of nitrifying bacteria which is vital to proper establishment of the nitrogen cycle.
- Otherwise, start slowly and steadily by adding small fishes to ensure balance between the amount of ammonia produced and sufficient presence of beneficial bacteria.
With an established aquaria:
- Continue to monitor vital water parameters especially with each water change.
Aquarium Maintenance
- It is always a good idea to give your water a quick test when you are changing water; run a quick test to ensure chloramines are removed and that nitrate level indeed decreases with each water change.
- And routinely check aquarium water to make sure that water parameters are within the boundaries that are most comfy for your little bubbly ones!

These are so easy to use and results are also easy to read. I've had issues with other strips where the little pads fall off but these stayed on just fine. Will definitely buy again and recommend.

Sticks read the same for a while so I thought they might be defective. Then I had a Nitrite spike and they warned me something was wrong.Highly recommended for budget test strips.

I’m not super fish savvy, but we have a tank at work. I started to get concerned that we hadn’t been monitoring the water levels, but the stuff online was confusing. I found these strips and they have been helpful to quickly assess how the water is doing. We have a bigger kit that was priced higher and is supposedly more accurate, but it takes a lot of time, which isn’t always practical for us. So this is a quick test that gives me peace of mind until we have a few more minutes during the week to get a more accurate reading.

Very straightforward to use and instructions are straightforward.However this version doesn’t measure ammonia, although the leaflet is for both types.Don’t do what I did and open the sealed bag of strips thinking they might be ammonia test strips - it’s just another 50 strips the same as in the tube, and now I’ve let the air get to them, reducing life span!
