I mounted this thing working alone in the rain. It took about 90 min and was completely straightforward. You could do it faster if you weren't keeping the instructions far away but dry on a porch! Instructions are crystal clear and pieces are clearly labeled.Using it is easy. We've got a cheap heavy bike and a lighter one, and they're both fine to mount on the inside or the outside. Two bikes together don't annoy each other. The rack is solid on the car using the provided mount. Having no prior experience I'd picked up an additional hitch tightener, but it's completely unnecessary.I'm not super strong and have to ask for help opening jars all time, but my hand strength was more than sufficient to secure this to the car and to secure the bikes. It's straightforward to remove and replace the rack from the car.I'd been comparing to a couple of racks that cost about twice as much and have slidable lengthening arms. Would those be slightly easier to use, sure, but I estimate we're talking about 30 sec difference or less per bike. Use this once and you'll have the routine down. It's small enough and easy enough to use the tailgate while it's mounted. We removed it to move a large piece of furniture, but otherwise leave it on the car all the time (2024 Grand Cherokee) and can still put groceries and handheld stuff into the back with no trouble. It messes with my perspective using the reverse camera, but I didn't tend to rely on it so that's not a big deal. However if you're a nervous reverser - you may want to practice :)

A world of difference from my previous bike rack, of which, never kept my bike from not moving around. This new rack is very sturdy, no shaking. the bike sits snug and secure with the adjustable restraints. Easy assembly. Good quality, inexpensive rack. My only drawback is that the rack might be bit on the heavy side for some people, especially when mounting to your vehicle. Most racks that I see are attached to SUVs and Pickup trucks. it's easier to mount to your vehicle with two people.

This is a really a surprisingly good product, well designed and extremely sturdy. I priced a variety of bike carriers and chose this for the price; it was priced well below other similar looking carriers. You need to be somewhat handy to assemble it; it took me about two+ hours to get it totally assembled and on my car. I have an SUV and it folds down easily, with bikes attached, to provide room to open the hatchback, and it also folds up into an out-of-the way position when not carrying bikes. The two hold-down hooks lock into place, as does the hitch itself, consequently, I'd feel mostly comfortable leaving the bikes attached on the car at an overnight stop. It also comes with four identical lock keys, each key fitting each of the three locks. The key was initially a bit hard to turn back and forth into the lock-unlock positions, but a little WD-40 sprayed into the locking mechanisms allowed the key to turn quite easier. It also comes with several Velcro tire tie-down straps for extra securing of the bikes. Also, when driving, the bikes do not move around at all, even over bumps. The whole thing is very secure. See my photos.

Sturdy, works well. Pin that is used in tilt operation will need adjustment as hard to pull with bikes on rack. Little bit of hole enlargement should do it.

Well built and the parts go together easily enough. Make sure you have the tools listed below as they don’t include any disposable tools like a lot or products do. Fortunately I have a complete set of mechanics tools. The instructions are poor. It says there are 2 Hex bolt sizes, M10 and M12 (10 and 12 MM hexes respectively). In fact they are M8 and M6 bolts. You also need either an adjustable crescent wrench or a 17 and 19 MM socket or open end wrench for the nuts, and either a 1 in or 24 MM for the hitch bolt. They should fix this error and clarify the actual tools needed as they aren’t included.I found it easier to first assemble anything but the hitch connection, then install the hitch connection to the truck and mount the assembly to the hitch connection last, at least for me. That was easier than trying to build the rack with the hitch mount already installed in your truck or SUV hitch receiver.I don’t recommend using pliers, you will simply round the nuts off.Plan on bringing these tools with you if you wish to remove the rack upon arrival at your destination.

I purchased this product to help move my two ebikes ~40 lbs each across the country from LA to Philly. 2700 miles, 46 hours. When I received this product I felt similar to many other reviewers. No way is all this weight attached to my car by essentially one friction point? I was extremely nervous to use it but I received it only a few days before my trip, and didn’t have the tools to modify it in my apartment. I ended up buying a hitch stabilizer for 10-15 bucks to help take some weight off the friction point.Long story short, the rack held completely solid for the entire 4 day, 2700 mile trip. After the 2nd day all my nerves about it were gone. I never even had to tighten it, I realize I probably was silly to question the engineers who designed and tested this product. As far as the strength of the connection. But the reason I am giving this a 4 star rating is because the bikes were too low, at least on my Subaru Forester. The inside bike gets blasted by the exhaust which in my case ended up melting the plastic reflector. Definitely position your wheels where nothing important is directly in front of the exhaust. Have seen some much worse stories online. Many of the other similar racks I saw on the trip were positioned much higher.
