I needed to create a bunch of planting holes in a steep slope along my driveway. The soil is glacial till, meaning hard-packed clay, roots and many rocks. The holes went from 3" for ground cover plugs up to 8-10" for planting catmint. With no room to work a clamshell or shovel, this auger worked great. Plug holes were done in 1 pass, the big holes took multiple holes joined together by twisting the bit sideways. Drill used was a Ryobi geared 3-speed 18v. The key was to dial down the torque clutch to 20 so that if something stuck, it would slip rather than break anything (auger, shaft, my wrist)Despite all the digging, catching clay nodules, rocks, roots, and side cutting, the auger is in great shape. There is some paint worn off the chisel tip and leading edge of the spiral, but nothing bent, no dings, dents or bends from spiraling the bit to dig sideways.A great, tough tool! Next workout will be planting hundreds of bulbs this fall.

Recently purchased a house in northern Florida and the ground is extremely hard. I couldn’t stake anything in at all unless it was a metal spike and I had a hammer. I purchased these tools to help me put seasonal decorations in the ground and they work great! No more breaking your holiday candy canes trying to put them into the ground!

I planted several plants but didn't follow the planting directions. Didn't even read the directions! So afterwards I did read the directions and needed to loosen the soil several inches out from the original hole I dug. Not wanting to remove and replant I bought this auger. Stuck it in my drill and loosened the soil. Worked great. Highly recommend for guys who don't read directions.

I purchased this auger to adjust the soil pH and nutrients around a maple tree. Although it would have been better if the bit was a inch or two longer, it got the job done. Using a corded Milwaukee drill with a keyed chuck, I was able to easily bore a series of 24 holes, each 2" diameter using the full length of the bit. The bit held up to drilling into wet heavy clay soil with no bending or deformation. The bit allowed me to easily add sulfur and nutrients at depth around the drip line of the tree. Rinsed off the dirt and looks like new. Good purchase for the price. Received quickly. A+

It’s a neat idea if only it fit in an impact driver.
