This item is built sturdily and the welds are excellent as is the paint job.I purchased it to protect my bumper and, though I didn't need the added step (and surprisingly the same item without the added step was more expensive by $35 at the time of my purchase) that is a bonus, though it detracts from any smoother line, appearance wise.I couldn't place the bumper protector/towing hitch step into my hitch without it just touching my vehicle (a GMC convertible van) in such a way that road vibration would have scored the bumper. As a result, I purchased a hitch extender (8 inches) and riser (4 inches). I tried another combination and it wouldn't work because the extender (5 inches) wasn't enough to clear my bumper as the riser would touch. See photo. In my opinion it's kind of ugly actually and I was considering getting a plastic bumper shield that attaches to the bumper and projects 3/4 of an inch outwards. But, what's even uglier is the damage that is certain to occur in parking situations with such a "solution". As it is, though, since this item extends 36 inches side to side I'll still be buying the stick-on European styled shields, front and back, though the current one should ward off most hits.I would have preferred a straight shape so that it would have fit correctly the first time. The bends at either end results in needing the extension as the bent sections form too close to my bumper. Overall, though, I'm satisfied that it will do what I want it to do, ugly or not.Note, too, that I purchased hitch pins that can only be removed by cutting or lock picking (NOT via a pipe, for reasons I won't detail). Also, I had to buy another anti-rattle piece as the added hitch extender required it. Once on, though, it was as solid and still as possible.

My truck's got a lift kit, so hopping in the bed is a breeze. It's pretty light though, so I doubt it'll help much in a rear-ender, but it looks cool.

This product looks very good. It is a neat and nice design. But it's too bad to use. As you can see in the picture, this is correct at first, but after a few uses, the metal bends and has a bad shape. Metal material seems to be a very weak material. Everything looked great before use, but only once traveled and will go back to this one. I'm a normal 140 lbs build and I haven't climbed too much or anything. Metal is a very weak material.

Muy bien armado, aunque el calibre del metal pudiese ser más fuerte
