For the price, I was fully expecting to have to square this myself and bake it in the oven to bring out the color. I didn’t have to do any of that. Came out of the box looking wonderful.I also bought black walnut and white oak from the same vendor and it made for a beautiful and “easy to make†charcuterie board.

There is nothing I dislike, I ordered 4 different species, plus I had some of my own hard woods, so I could make cutting boards for a local chef who was on Hells Kitchen and runs a kitchen at local restaurant. I was never interested, because I carve freehand art for a living. But it seems now I will making cutting boards as well. Enough about me, all the wood I ordered was perfect, I will be buying again very soon. I just need to talk for the vender on getting 7/8" or 1" thick and wider boards . do to my wood working process

When you receive the purple heart you will be disappointed with the initial color. I would call it a pastel purple. I wanted a deep purple. I read up on it and found that by using a heat gun (generally used for stripping paint) you can bring out the deep, dark intense purple. I only needed 6" lengths. It does take several minutes of applying the heat to get the purple to emerge. Keep the gun moving to achieve a consistent color. I also read that leaving it in the sun will get you the same result. That took too long for me. I left it out for a full day in the summer sun it was only marginally darker. I also read that you can put it in the oven for 10 minutes at 300 degrees. I didn't try it so I can't vouch for that but I think that would work too.

Purple Heart is nice this time but last time wasn't purple all the way thru and it takes time to lay it out for us to turn it.the amount ya pay for it I think it should be ready to use.had to grab some local for project and cost an arm and leg.other than one time Barrington has always been spot on
