The steel is not rust resistant. The jaws match up squarely, but the spring steel that holds them open consists of two delicate pieces of spring steel that fit together via a tiny tab into a notch, and they depend on the dipped plastic handle covers to hold them in place. Use them carefully in dry applications and keep them out of sunlight, which deteriorates plastic, and hopefully you'll get good use out of them.
