I took this map to my solo hiking trip recently and it helped me not to get lost without using GPS. The trails, the type of trails, the parking lot and restroom locations are accurate in the Point Lobos and Big Sur. I bought other location maps and I find them helpful as well.

I'm using this map as a background to display some of the Scouting patches I've collected. This map shows one of the camps I attended: Camp Pico Blanco.

While planning for a moto-ride through the greater Big Sur/Los Padres National Forrest I bought this map. It clearly details the roads, gates, campgrounds, the legal-political status of different tracts of land and the geography in usable detail. The map itself is made of rugged, plastic enhanced paper that will repell water thus making it durable and cleanable. It was a good purchase.

Used this map over the weekend for a trip to Los Padres National Forest. The material feels good and repels water well. We were able to route around a flooded road (Del Venturi) and to find our way around the trails near Memorial Campground. Really useful map.

If there were one thing I would change about these National Geographic maps it would be to either have the key on both sides or flip one map over on the page so that you can flip over the fold with the key on it while looking at the opposite page and have it be right side up. While I can read upside down it's not ideal. Both sides are printed with north pointing to the same edge of the sheet, so if you turn over the key from the other side it is upside down. Otherwise it's a decent map for finding trails and getting a rough idea of land access possibilities. It would also be helpful to have more parking possibilities pointed out. Most of Los Padres in the coverage area for this map is wilderness (no vehicles allowed) so you have to park outside and hike in. I imagine there are okay places to park to hike in for camping for a few days to a week or two without paying hefty per-day fees at external state parks or internal concessionary campground facilities, but if there are I can't find them on this map. I believe the very few places marked "P" on this map in the areas actually within park-and-hike-in distances of Los Padres are going to have parking/camping/day use fees that can quickly add up.

We used this map for our trip from LAX to Monterey in Dec 2012 and it was so detailed we did not need any other maps.
