This actual charcoal is used in most robata yakitori restaurants in Japan and is preferred by most chefs. 22lbs. box include mixed size ranging from 2"-10" Ash Content: 0.8%, Moisture: 2%, Fixed Carbon: 90%, Calorific Value:8000kcal/kg. Binchotan charcoal is a type of activated charcoal made from oak wood. It is prized for its high quality, long-lasting performance, and various uses, including: Water filtration: Binchotan is commonly used in water filtration systems to remove impurities, chemicals, and odors from drinking water. Air purification: Binchotan can be used as an air purifier by removing pollutants and odors from the air. Grilling: Binchotan is used as a fuel for grilling due to its ability to produce high heat, low ash, and minimal smoke. Deodorization: Binchotan can be used as a natural deodorizer for removing unpleasant odors from a variety of materials, such as clothes and shoes. Quality: Binchotan is made from high-quality oak wood and is kiln-fired at high temperatures, resulting in a hard, long-lasting product with a high surface area and greater adsorption capacity compared to other types of activated charcoal.

This stuff is as close to real Japanese binchō-tan Charcoal as you can get. I used it in a c1910 Japanese Hibachi for authentic teriyaki and yakitori; Worked perfect. Super hot coals, no smoke or flavor from charcoal. Charcoal is reusable; Immerse in water when done, let dry and reuse same coals. I used more than five other times (still using them in fact). I purchased 22lbs but you don't need near that much, unless doing commercially or cook large quantities of meat with it. Not messy like charcoal briquettes. I use a propane stove to get the coals started then transfer them to the grill. You do not use charcoal lighter fluid with binchō-tan Charcoal.

If looking for a binchotan charcoal this is a worthy brand. The flavor and smell it gives off is the real deal! For the amount you get to price ratio isn’t that bad for not being able to buy binchotan commercially. 5stars

most of charcoal size is about your two finger thick so it does not last long. I would expect more than this for the price. overall, good quality charcoal but not worth the money.

For the price per lb., this is a great deal. I have used it 6 time so far and it’s been wonderful taste every time.

Perfect binchotan. Doesn’t impart an overwhelming flavor and has super longevity on the the burn.

Not as flavorful as high grade Japanese Kishu. When I use Kishu my yakitori is restaurant quality says my wife and to me that’s worth the extra expense. Also doesn’t stay lit as long.
