I needed something easy to read from a distance. This does the trick!

In winter, water gets in it and it freezes and cracks. We love the design because it attaches to the deck rail where you can always see how much rain fell. They are inexpensive. So we keep the same holder just change the plastic container. It's a great item

Easy to install, excellent clarity, and I like the measure in decimal inches. The floating bar make the view excellent from 12+ ft away.

I chose this rain gauge because of its large numbers and clear markings. It has worked well for us.The surprises I had:1. The instructions say not to leave it outdoors in freezing weather, apparently because the plastic might crack? Not a real problem; we brought it inside for the winter.2. The numbers are very clear against a white/light color background. I mounted it on our wooden fence, and it looked great. Until it rained -- then the bare wood got really dark (duh), and we couldn't see the markings from a distance. I solved that by putting a couple of strips of white duct tape on the backside, to get good contrast for the numbers and gradations.3. After a few months in the sun, the red floater/marker faded to pink and then to very light pink. I marked up with a red permanent marker, and that faded away, too. Still readable, but could be better. I'll try again with a black marker.4. The red "floater" just stuck to the bottom of the gauge when there was a light rain, with surface tension forces greater than buoyancy. Even with more rain later, it still stuck to the bottom. So I added a couple of stick-on rubber bumpers (for cabinet doors) to the bottom of the floater, and no more surface tension. Yes, it raises the bar above zero, but we just ignore the very low readings.Bottom line ... if you don't mind these problems, or making a few small improvements, it's really the best one I have seen for readability.

I’ve ordered and returned numerous rain gages because they didn’t live up to their description. This one is GREAT!!!! It’s very easy to hang and the best part is that my old eyes CAN ACTUALLY READ THE NUMBERS!!! Great stuff!

A good gauge for far away viewing as long as the grandchildren don’t shoot them with their BB guns. lol.

I love this rain gauge. Bought it in September and got to see it in action. Then we had a freeze and the 2" of water became all ice. When the temperature rose, naturally the ice melted. We dumped water out, but the next rainfall after seeing an inch, the water disappeared on its own. I discovered a crack on the bottom, presumably from the water freezing. I will wait until it is all dry and try to use caulk to repair it. If not, I like it so much I will buy another, but will always take it inside when there is a frost warning.

This is the second one like this I've ordered The first one finally cracked after several years in the Georgia Sun. Summertime down here is brutal and it was in the sun continuously. I bought this one because it's similar to the one I had and would fit in the same frame and it works great. I like keeping track of The rain on my deck. When it gets worn out in a few years I'll buy another one just like it. Well worth the money.
