I had to replace the timing chains and cassettes on my son's 2003 Sport Trac 4.0L engine. As it's easier to remove the jackshaft in order to put the front timing cassette in, when I removed it, I found out the bearings were spun. I cleaned the jackshaft with a wire wheel and polished the races with 5000 grit sandpaper. Hammered in with some locktite on the outer races, and assembled the next day. These bearings really saved my bacon, and I'm happy to say that I've put over 500 miles on the engine so far, and no problems yet.If you're going thru they headache of rebuilding your 4.0L engine... Do yourself a favor, and replace these bearings.
