1.Style:Basic Fluid Kit

2.Size:1 Fluid Oz (29.5ml)

  • Basic Ferrofluid Kit Includes: 2 fluid ounce bottle of educational grade ferrofluid (FerroTec EFH1), a set of disposable gloves, 1 pipette, a set of petri dishes
  • EDUCATION - These ferrofluids are specifically designed for use in classrooms, schools, and museums. They feature magnetic properties that make it easier to visualize the magnetic patterns. They're also great for DIY science projects and other thought provoking science experiments. When not in use, please store away in the ferrofluid bottle sealed tight. Long exposure to air may dry the fluid and reduce it's potency to perform visual displays.
  • STEM LEARNING - A great alternative to kid's being glued to the television or mobile phones. This magnetic learning activity is a great way for parents or teachers to bond with their children by exploring an educational concept in the science of magnetism. The early stages in a child's development in learning is the most critical. This is the time to inspire creativity, imagination, and curiosity. Plant the seed to their future success, today. (Adult supervision is advised.)
  • PREPARATION - As fun as they are to experiment with, ferrofluid can get really messy! Please be mindful of what you wear and provide a protective layer over the area where you will experiment on. If you get some on your skin, please wash continuously with hand soap and stay clear of your eyes. Our educational kits comes with a few basics to help manage the mess and maximize your fun! Detailed step by step guide on how to use ferrofluid and manage the mess, below.
  • APPLICATIONS - EFH1 model is used for education in magnetism, visual art displays, visual music displays, visual technology displays in clocks, watches, and even ferrofluid dancing in non-permanent magnetic speakers. The endless possibilities for ferrofluid applications is only limited by your imagination. This model is not to be used as a cooling system for audio speaker systems.

Product Description

Will Get Messy

Ferrofluid is fun to experiment with but can get messy and may stain skin and contact surfaces. Please prepare with caution and safety. Be careful for splashes and spillage when pouring from bottle. We recommend you use a transfer pipette to manage the mess.

Warning Label - Adult Supervision Recommended

Adult Supervision Recommended

Recommended for children ages 12+ and adults. Adult supervision is strongly advised. Risk of respiratory, eye, or skin irritation if not handled with care. Please keep out of reach from children unless supervised.

WARNING! Fatal If Swallowed

DO NOT Swallow or Inhale

May be fatal if swallowed. May cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation. Please wash with soap and warm water if in contact with skin. Recommended to use gloves and safety goggles if available.

Step by Step Guide: Maximize the Fun, Minimize the Mess

STEP 1 Find a suitable flat table or work space. Protect work space with a leak proof covering. We suggest making two cuts, one on each side of a large plastic trash bag and unfolding the piece over the work space. Another solution could be several layers of cardboard to help soak up any accidental spills.
STEP 2 Put on some clothing that you don't mind getting any accidental stains. If you have protective goggles available, that would be recommended to protect your eyes. Liquid may cause severe eye irritation. Remember not to rub your eyes if you get some on your hands!
STEP 3 Set experimental equipment, cleaning supplies like paper towels, and ferrofluid on the protected work area. If you've ordered one of our kits, we've prepared you with some of the basics to help you manage the mess; set of gloves, set of petri dishes, and a transfer pipette.
STEP 4 Use transfer pipette to transfer ferrofluid to petri dish in the amount you want. The more ferrofluid used, the more visible the spikes and patterns will be.
STEP 5 Always place magnets under the petri dish and never the side. Sideway placement of magnets may attract liquid outside of petri dish and onto the magnets and your hands. Very messy to clean up.
STEP 6 You can strengthen the magnetism and form larger spikes by stacking your magnets together or using stronger magnets under the petri dish. To see spikes around a circle, place the hex nut on top of the magnets and placing it under the petri dish.
STEP 7 Explore different patterns with different shapes and strength of magnets. Try other creative DYI experiments.
STEP 8 When you're done having fun. Use the transfer pipette to put back any salvageable ferrofluid back into your ferrofluid bottle for future experiments. You may lose some to accidental spills or fluid being stuck to petri dish.
STEP 9 Clean up any re-useable equipment and skin that comes in contact with the fluid with soap and warm water. You may need to wash several washing to get it all off.
STEP 10 Clean up your work area and throw away the disposable cover of your work area. Store ferrofluid in room temperature and sealed with the cap. Do not allow it to be exposed to the air or it will dry out and reduce it's potency.
STEM learning teaching teach student teacher classroom science technology engineering mathematics

“The role of the teacher is to create the conditions for invention rather than provide ready-made knowledge.” - Seymour Papert, Computer Scientist

Everyday, our kids' attention are being diverted to mobile apps, television, and social media. Taking away the opportunity in their early development to learn how to be creative, expand their imagination, and explore the physical world around them. At CMS Magnetics, we strongly believe in education through experience. We have a variety of products that allow parents and teachers to interact with their kids on their way to discovering the magic of magnetism, together. Invest in your children's future, today. 2oz is actually quite a bit. Good stuff, reacts with magnets and may be good for injecting into the bum of a security guard to free your human magnet friend. I'd say don't actually get this on anything, as it really stains the crap out of your hands/clothes/cat. For extra fun suspend it in about a 70/30 rubbing alcohol/distilled water solution. If you suspend it in 100 alcohol, it separates from the oil suspension and becomes these little black chunks that will be like the worst paint you've ever gotten on your hands. I made the mistake of dumping it in my white bathroom sink and then touched the chunk. It promptly stuck to my fingers and turned them black. I then tried to wipe it out of the sink which was wrong and it spread like a strange paint. Needless to say, the only thing that got this off my hands and sink was more rubbing alcohol and determined rubbing (heh).Get some bottles and make some 'Dwarfs in a bottle' and wow your anime friends with your amazing living Dwarf. Just no soul sucking.

Perfect for what I needed it for! I was looking for a macro shot of it and it worked out beautifully. Note: I did not use the Petri dish that came with the kit (I had some larger glass ones) nor did I use the magnets that came with it (I had stronger ones available).

This stuff is a mess, but it's a heck of a lot of fun!My son and I experimented with a few different suspension solutions to create a display. We spent a couple messing around and had a great time. His friends were duly impressed with the fluid's reactions to magnetic fields and he donated the best one to his teacher. (5th grade)It doesn't take a whole of the fluid in a solution to create a cool display. Just don't get it on anything. It stains like you wouldn't believe

Great flow and magnetic properties to this fluid! I tried making my own for some projects and it did not go too well. This stuff works great! No issues at all.

Just no. Do yourself a favor and use glass, not plastic. This product actually seeps through plastic. It splatters and it doesn't wash off of anything. It's literally impossible to use this kit as is

What a mess this stuff makes! The two magnets were shattered inside the package somehow, useless now.

This is awesome for teaching kids about magnetism in a fun way. For all ages the effects of Ferrofluid is wowing but for older kids the explanation of how it actually was created and how it works is also really cool. For the price, the fun and learning can't be beat.

I'm not a chemist, but it seems to be the real deal. If you want to make a display just add one pipette squeeze to a 1:1 ratio of distilled water to isopropyl alcohol. I used 99% isopropyl but I'm told also rubbing alcohol works well.

The dropper doesn't work. The container it comes with is pretty much useless and makes a huge mess as it doesn't contain the fluid. Find another one. If this wasn't opened it would've been returned. Unfortunately you don't know the issues until it's been opened. Hopefully I can save others from buying this ahead of time. Don't do it!
