Love the fact that this is on a roll and the needle is flexible. I am using it on my 30' x 60' dog kennel. The top has rails with no climb equine fence 6' high. The top rail has fencing all the way to the top so I cold not wrap the ends around the top rail. This is a great soltion as the needle easily wraps the cord and gives the stability needed to secre the roll around a rail and start a strip of shade fabric. To secure on the other side I am using a long strip of wood with the fabric wrapped around it a few times for stability and strength as to not put pressure on points buut all the way around the strip, then sewing and screwing the wood end cloth covered strip to the top rail. This roll of heavy string is very easy to use and seems to be of good quality. The needle and spool can be reused. Since I have livestock, the needle and spool will more than likely be used with hay bale twine in the future. ( Yes, hay twine and duct tape are still in my inventory for repairs)Love this needle because the eye is huge and the needle is flexible. I love it.

I ordered the coolaroo lace and 'needle' for lacing coolaroo fabric and it works great for that. The regular price of $12 is rather steep, my 1st roll was $8, and I just got 3 more when they were on sale for $6. I did stock up because of the sale and I know I'll use it.We grow shade loving plants and concentrate on some less common (Asimina triloba - paw paw) and some now rare ones (Goldenseal and ginseng). We reuse trampoline nets for some and trampoline pads for some, depending on the level of shade required. We also have used coolaroo fabric, but of course recycling trampoline nets and pads keeps them out of the landfill longer. They last a lot longer than tarps and are free, so we get them every time someone is throwing away a trampoline. They allow water through so when used outside over plants, the plants still get water.ANYWAY, the coolaroo string lasts a long time, and doesn't degrade in the heat of the hoophouse or outside. The lacing needle is very convenient if we can lay the fabric on the ground to sew it together. Often times we can't as we're working overhead, so we cut lengths of coolaroo lace (string) , overlap the nets a bit and tie them together. The coolaroo lace, lacing needle and fabric are good quality products.

I like that the kit has everything you need for attaching or seaming together webbed shade cloth. It seems to be holding up well in our intensely hot weather.

We have a VERY large Cooleroo sunshade. It's actually two adjacent 10 ft wide rolls that are 60 ft long, so 20 ft x 60 ft. We got the lacing kit to join the overlapping seams so the wind doesn't blow them "open". For this, the lacing cord and needle work perfectly. The needle is easy to thread and the Cooleroo fabric is porous enough to make stitching very easy. There are no instructions included. We found that, like many synthetics, we had to burn the cut ends of the lacing to prevent fraying. The product description reads: "Coolaroo 301408, Lacing Needle Attachment and Placement, (1 Set, 80' Cord) Shade Fabric Accessories, Black". So we expected 80 FEET of lacing cord. However the package label clearly shows the lacing cord length as 6 ft 10 IN.! However, we used at least 5 ft today and there is considerably more on the spool. We did not MEASURE it, but think it might actually be 80 ft. We identified this to Amazon for their action.

I tried butterfly clips to attach shade cloth and found them extremely difficult to close, so I bought this cord and needle with the idea that I would fold shade cloth over the guy wire and sew it. The needle included with the cord was way too big for my purpose; it was very hard to pull the cord through a double layer. I found a pack of "assorted yarn needles" on Amazon which were much smaller and worked beautifully. The one I used was about 2.5" long with a bent tip that helped guide it. The resulting seam feels secure and looks great -- much more even than other methods. It was time-consuming but not difficult to sew. A few tips: Clip the shade cloth to the guy wire every 12" or so with binder clips or similar before starting. It worked best for me to sew from underneath so I could see the woven lines on the shade cloth against the sky, and line them up for a straight seam. Aim the needle in between the woven lines; if you hit those, it's very hard to pull the needle through. I made stitches about 1/2" long. I tied the ends and then seared the tail to seal it and keep it from unraveling.

I bought one of these shade with the whole roll up assembly about 7 years ago. It's in our backyard over the patio door to our bedroom. We have a pool in the backyard so not only is subject to sun and all weather year round, there are also pool chemicals. This screen fabric hasn't so much as frayed or thinned, and has been rolled up and down repeatedly. For that reason, I searched online for this fabric and found it. I have 2 windows on the side of the house that I just need to cover, doesn't need to roll up, so I bought the fabric/lacing cord/gromits. It works great. I recommended it to a friend who bought some for her pergola. It comes in lots of colors. I don't know about other fabrics or shades like this. But I can recommend Coolaroo. This seller had the best price, shipped and received as promised.

Bought sturdy poles form the hardware store, sprayed them black and inserted them into hems I had made. Gave it weight & support. Bought another roll to add down the side for shade in the afternoon. Now I have shade I didn't have before over my pergola!!

For hemming my Coolaro blind but also a strong cord for many other reasons/projects. Came with a strong plastic needle to weave thru the cloth - looks good.
