I bought these because I never saw these in stores and got curious. I briefly tried pastels before and I found them too difficulty to work with. BUT. These are very buttery, super fun to play with and mix colors. They have a somewhat firmer feel than other pastels but layer well. Colors are very vibrant.I don't know if I would give these to a young child, they do have the oil chemical smell that regular pastels have and I find they are super messy as well. I think this would be a wonderful present for a child of 8+ interested in exploring different mediums.I made the doodle as a gag gift to my sister within 2 hours of them being delivered. It didnt take long to get the hang of it. These are super forgiving and let you layer over mistakes.

I have bought hundreds of these because I am an art teacher. My students have made beautiful work using these oil pastels. I love the variety of colors.

As far as oil pastels go, these are really good for the price. If you want hard oil pastels and not soft buttery ones, these are definitely the way to go. I was skeptical at first because of the funky shape, but I actually really like the way these work a lot! When it comes to durability, they’re definitely harder to snap or break, so these are definitely more kid friendly than the majority of oil pastels. However, if you are a perfectionist like me who is big on blending, you really have to try with these ones; depending on the color, the lines come down very harshly and are not super opaque (cough cough metallic colors cough) To get a good mark out of them you might have to press down relatively hard depending on the surface, so if you decide to use these as if they are crayons for some reasons, they’re not the quickest to simply write with.

These pastels are pretty decent for what they are (Children Pastels) and their price. They’re actually not that bad.. they blend okay and produce a lot of little particles when being used. I mainly use them for large areas that need to be covered as a under layer and then I use my more expensive oil pastel like mungyo and caran d’ ache.. they’re better then some of my other cheaper pastel brands. They’re more waxy and need more pressure to apply and are okay but not good at laying colors on top of other colors. You can put darker colors on top but if you want to use a lighter color, you’re pretty much using it as a blending stick lol..

I believe that everything Crayon produces is really great, and their prices are just unbeatable. I keep thinking how pretty oil pastel paintings are, so I have bought several different sets to try them, and just end up making a mess. I tried blending with the fingers and I hate that too. I tried different things, tissues, paper towels, alcohol, and just cannot get the hang of it. The fault is mine, not Crayola. Buy them.

Crayola oil pastels are what I use at school with my students. In addition to being great for beginner art students, the quality is so good that I use them myself. I purchased a set and I almost need a new one! They work well on cardboard as well as on different paper textures and types. They blend perfectly and this 28 pack has vibrant colors, some pastels, and gold and silver- all that I need to create teacher samples and make my own art.The set gives excellent value for money and I will keep coming back to replenish my stock.

Ive bought these alongside a good quality oil pastels. Both were amazing in their own way. These are amazing for starting out as they layer well and are quite soft. The colours are pigmented and has good variety. Highly recommend for the price despite it being made for kids!
