Very happy with this mail slot.Suspected someone was stealing our mail so we had to go with a more secure setup. Decided to go with a mail slot in our front door so the mail would drop in our house, away from the sticky fingers of any possible thieves.Your standard mail slot is very drafty and they really make no attempt to block the draft, costing you a lot of money in the long run with heating and cooling. This slot is extremely well designed to block drafts. The spring loaded flaps close the flap up against a rubber seal and brushes underneath. This is the same for both slots that you get so you really get four layers of draft protection. It's pretty obvious a good amount of time was spent engineering this well crafted solution. A nice bonus: not only does the design block drafts but it makes it more challenging for any possible peepers to look inside your home through this slot. They'd have to hold both flaps open and push the brushes out of the way. I like!A few minor negatives to consider however. This does not come with any type of sleeve to install between the two slots in case you are installing the slots on something hollow, like a thick garage door. This was not an issue for our solid core front door but I did have to be extra careful cutting a neat, clean hole. The directions recommend a slightly hole larger than the slot size so measure the actual slot size yourself. Both doors are spring loaded so your mail person will have to use a little more force to get the mail through. If they only have a single piece of mail to delivered it will get a bit crumpled.Again, overall I am very happy with this mail slot. Would highly recommend it and purchase again.

Our 1940's house had a built in mail slot in the exterior wall. It was nice that the mail carrier could drop the mail in from outside, and the mail fell into a box inside the house, but it let in a lot of cold air in winter and heat in summer. We renovated and would like the same set up without the hot/cold air. This is it.This very sturdy item is made to be installed on a typical front door, which is thinner than a typical exterior wall. We wanted it installed in an exterior wall. To prevent mail falling in the middle between the exterior stucco and the interior drywall, we had wood framed between, which worked great. The rough bristles really blocks the hot/cold air.Downside is thin mail basically gets deformed and many times left in the middle of the wall because it's hard to push thin mail all the way through. I just reach inside the interior mail slot into the space in the wall and get them. Larger/thicker mail such as magazines go through without issues. Our mail carrier said this mail slot is tough, and he feels bad he's destroying our mail while trying to push everything inside. We told him as long as nothing rips, we're fine with wrinkled mail, which still beats hot/cold air coming in. We even had a hand coming through our old mail slot on Halloween demanding candies. I feel safer with this new mail slot.Highly recommended for our purpose. If anyone has ideas to help with thin mail being wrinkled issue, please share. I only wish this item comes in other colors such as brushed nickle and polished nickle.

I was pretty excited to finally find a higher and mail slot that has spring or magnetic tension to keep shut. All the product is intended and marketed for glass stores, I used it for a through the wall mail slot and an older home. Positive sides are that it does very well close on its own. Negative was that if the frame itself one screwed or attached to the wall was even slightly bowed, the door was unable to shot and hold a seal. Hard to find a perfectly flat surface and an older house. As others noted, once I had everything installed, after testing mail insertion it was difficult to get mail through the rear door. The gap between my inner and outer slot was approximately 3 1/2 inches. This would require the mail person to aim for the middle of the brushes opening on the interior, not likely something they would do for me. To alleviate, I removed the set of lower brushes from the interior allowing the mail to answer and push up in the bottom of the door fairly easily. Satisfied with the product. The shipping was awful. When the product did not show up and it's estimated two week timeframe, the company finally responded to emails and shipped it out a week after it was scheduled to be delivered. They did however return my shipping fee.

Although this looks white it is actually silver. The flaps do not close tight after installation. If you return you will be charged a 20% restocking fee even though it isn't stated anywhere.

Product only lasted 2.5 years. Manufacturer will not stand behind their product. DO NOT PURCHASE if you want your mail slot to last.

I wasn't sure what to look for in a mail slot, but this one seemed to be pretty nice since I had the brushes inside to keep weather out. So, while it was a little more expensive than some of the other choices, I decided to give it a whirl. I am very happy with the design and materials, and it was pretty easy to install.

Hopefully this doesn't give the mailman fits. We had a drop box but wanted a slot in wall as we have a glass door. There are two indentical pieces, one for the inside, one for the outside. My son cut through the wall and lined the opening with flashing. The outside is on vinyl siding the inside on plaster. As someone else said a flimsy piece of mail (like a cardboard junk flyer) will probably not make it through as the doors are pretty tightly sealed. We will see how this holds up over time. The look is very nice and looks fine on my inside wall.

1. Draft proofing of this mail slot would be improved by strips of foam around the inside edge of each hinged panel,2. Canada Post workers usually do not push the mail right through the double line of brushes, so defeating the purpose of cutting the through draft. i have added an advisory sticker to the outside panel.
