I have three girl Rats in a large wire cage with several small water bottles as well as this lovely ceramic piece. I believe that creatures should be able to drink in their natural style if possible. I place this drinker on top of a brick in the corner of their cage which serves three purposes. One; climbing up onto the brick has natural nail-buffing action. (The bricks also get soaked with pee, I recommend having several and soak in a pan of vinegar & sun-dry outdoors!) Two: the brick holds down the fleece cage floor in that corner, the rats can't budge it. Three, it is up high so foreign objects don't get in as easily. Now the beautiful part - the rats love this waterer so much they basicaly ignore the other bottles. They wash their faces in it as well, so adoreable to watch, in addition to just lapping water naturally. I rinse & refill every morning. Once a week, put in some vinegar and cheap salt and swish vigorously, the salt scours the inside that you can't see. The simple, natural shape is appealing. The lack of moving parts and my rats' enjoyment of this item means i will be buying another one for them for their out-of-cage playplace as well.

I like that this holds a lot of water but my male gerbils can't crawl into it. It's stable for my pets but they're small and can't use it. It's well made and easy to use and dry the outside. It's affordable all things considered and works with tanks or cages. As for ease of cleaning, in my opinion it's not the easiest, but it's ok. I wash it, swish dish soap inside and rinse it for a long time. Then (and I may be paranoid) I taste some water from it and if it's not soapy it's good.

My syrian hamster is very much used to the water bottle with the ball at the end of the opening.I heard some hamsters get their tongue stuck in the ball & the metal rod and cut them.. :SPlus, I just thought my hamster would like the fresh water compared to the one from the bottle. But habits must die hard for hamsters too. My hammie doesn't drink from the water dispenser at all, she only tries to climb up and get out of her house! Also my friends tell me that it looks like a human toilet...But nonetheless, great product! Just that my hammie isn't smart enough...I still fill the water dispenser with clean water every day in case she wants to drink from this dispenser.Cleaning does look difficult if this isn't refilled everyday..! Since I refill it everyday or every two to three days, I just rise it a few times with steaming hot water so it could clean the inside of the water dispenser.

EDIT: REMOVED ONE STAR. I made the stupid mistake of setting it down straight on the bedding while cleaning the wood hide it normally sits on. My mice rapidly proceeded to fill it with bedding to run it dry. Once it was empty my largest oldest female mouse decided to crawl inside and get herself hopelessly horribly stuck. The way its shaped they can crawl in easily, but cannot bend their backs properly to escape. After trying everything to get her free, I did have to break it to get her out alive. I still have another one that I still use, but I NEVER let it run out and check it a couple times a day now. Still better than a bowl, but they can be very dangerous if allowed to empty. I wish the opening for the water was a bit bigger or smaller, the size is just the right size to tempt a mouse to crawl inside and get stuck.Original review: I decided to try this, because I've gotten so sick of playing Russian roulette every single time I buy any sort of water bottle. Maybe it will leak, maybe it won't, or maybe it just won't dispense water at all. Or my all time favorite, maybe it will dispense ALL the water over night and I'll wake up to a soggy mess and soaked unhappy animals. So yeah, I decided to try this water method and it's PERFECT! It is a little small in size, which originally concerned me. However I've never had it run out for my 11 mice, and I've left it for as long as 3 days, to see how long a fresh fill would last them. It still didn't run out, but the water got a little yucky for my taste so I rinsed and refilled. Obviously you need to put it up on a flat surface where they can't fill it with bedding, or it would not work for more than a few minutes. Also for those concerned about stink or cleaning. I bought an assorted pack of bottle brushes and a bottle of dish soap. It works perfectly... Not sure why people have problems with growing grossness inside. But the ceramic has been wonderfully hygienic so far even with my nasty mice, and it has been incredibly easy to maintain. I generally just give it a quick rinse and refill every morning when I feed my crew. All in all it takes two minutes to get them fresh clean water that I won't have to worry about for another 24hrs. I'll never go back to a bottle or bowl for them. I wish they made a larger size for rabbits. It does look a teeny bit like a toilet. But they luckily don't use it like one, like they did ceramic bowls. And overall it is still pretty and makes for a nice looking and efficient waterer.

I've been using this for 5 years now. It's a great alternative option to the upside-down waterbottle things that never stop leaking. I've used them for over a total of 8 years and no matter what I do, which brand I buy, they ALL LEAK. just at different levels. So I decided to try this out and never went back.Sometimes, one of the mice will decide to stuff it with bedding and soak up all the water but that depends on your pet. The boys (neutered, don't worry) I have now never clog it so I really don't have to worry about the water quality. It can go up to 3-4 days with 5 mice, but I try to refresh it every other day if debris hasn't gotten into it.TL;DR Would recommend. Perfect for mice, and doesn't leak like those ball spouted water bottles.

I bought this ceramic waterer for a hamster living in a big tank - with no place for a regular water bottle. She seems to enjoy drinking out of it, and it takes up very little space and is quite sturdy ... But I guess I shouldn't have assumed that the bottle would open in order to clean the inside of the device. It is very difficult to clean the interior - and I worry about mold and grossness. I'll work it out, though - and otherwise I really like this concept.

I waited 20 days for this item to be delivered to me, because it is dispatched from China. This is a huge disappointment since it is leaking from the bottom because it is not glazed on all sides.
