It was very well made and sounded great. I bought it for my seven yr old grandson and it was too heavy for him.

I did not know what to expect. It sounds OK, I supposed. It was packaged and delivered with care, and in a timely manner! It is fun and relaxing to play. I am not a percussion guy (I like guitar), but I am glad I bought this, and hope to use it in a drum circle. It seems well made, too - sturdy, thick, but not heavy.EDIT - if you just want an instrument to join a drum circle, drop some bucks and get a big, or at least bigGER one. You will not hear yourself in a drum circle with this tiny djembe. I will keep it at five stars, because it serves its purpose well otherwise.

Very nice looking, and has a decent sound. though I have not played many small djembe, to my knowledge this is well made and has a very pleasant tone, slap, and bass, though sometimes the drum head is to small to hit these precisely. My only problem is the carvings are pretty rough and it is only 60 dollars so I guess that can be forgiven but just be forewarned. You have to get closer to it to tell so if you are getting this purely as a decoration piece it will look decent.

I bought this drum for my 9 year old boy. I play ont it while he is at school though. Its a perfect size fun drum. Obviously its not for you if you are in a band, but it is perfect for a fun family drum. Did I mention it is beautiful!!!!? I keep itnon a table and it makes for a cool decor while we are not using it. The sound is very authentic and clear. Great BUY!!!

(Wife): We finally got our Benzara Indonesian wood and leather djembe, after a wait of about three weeks (while in stock). Now that we have it, here's what I can tell you:1) The design on the side is different on ours than the design in the Amazon photo. In my opinion, it isn't quite as pretty, but it's still interesting.2) The djembe arrived tuned as far as I can tell as a novice player, but it uses a different rope tuning style than in the Amazon photo -- more akin to resembling rectangles with thin triangles in between, as opposed to the triangular zigzag pattern shown. This is my first rope-tuned djembe, so I do not know if this makes a difference. As far as I can tell, the diamonds all appear to have been pulled already. The drumhead arrived extremely taut already, and the rope tuning system appears to be lacking a ring along the top of the drum stem / foot (i.e., no bottom ring). (I have seen rope-tuned djembes with and without bottom rings, I think.) There is no noticeable leftover rope, and I am not sure how to replace the drumhead, if it were needed. So, if you wanted to learn to play, tune and maintain a rope-tuned djembe, I'd probably buy a different drum.3) From what I can tell as I play it, it seems to produce pleasant, natural-sounding djembe drum sounds.4) I would consider this djembe reasonable for decor, provided that the size were appropriate for the desired effect. The one we bought was advertized as being 16" tall, and that is about accurate. There are smaller djembes available here on Amazon, at the time of this writing, including by Benzara (I think) and X8 Drums.5) This djembe is about right both size-wise and weight-wise for our toddler daughter. I am not as concerned about this one falling on her and hurting her, unlike when my 12" Remo MONDO is upright. (The Remo seems quite a bit heavier.) I am a little concerned about the tension of the head of this Benzara djembe, though. I would recommend adult supervision when a young child is playing either this drum, or a larger djembe, such as my 12" fiberglass Remo.6) There are definite imperfections in our Benzara djembe. I suspect these djembes to be mass-produced. Quality is -- as far as I'm concerned -- fair / acceptable -- not excellent, but decent, especially given the price.7) This Benzara djembe is a good deal quieter than my 12" Remo MONDO. I would consider the Remo more suitable for performance purposes, especially when a louder instrument is desirable. At home, though, I am more concerned about my Remo annoying my neighbors and loved ones, than this little Benzara djembe.8) The Benzara's sound quality seems more natural to me, whereas the Remo gets deeper bass, but loud, tinny / "metallic"-sounding slaps. If you would like an instrument you can enjoy without annoying loved ones and neighbors, this small Benzara djembe might work. (As an adult woman, I can play it; it just takes slight modification of the drum strikes to accommodate the smaller head.)9) This little Benzara is more portable than my larger Remo; but my Remo, being synthetic, is believed to handle extreme climate changes much better than wood and leather djembes like this Benzara. The climate changes also includes beachside settings, probably due primarily to the humidity (although you'd want to keep the tuning brackets clean / free of salt water, to prevent corrosion).10) The playable drumhead diameter on our Benzara 7" wide x 16" high djembe is six inches, which is about right, since the drumhead diameter can be measured as the playable surface, or as a whole. The best is when the manufacturer informs you of both diameters. If in doubt, assume smaller than advertized. While the smaller playing surface means that I must exercise greater precision in my drum strikes, I find that I can still play this little drum fairly well. The large playing head diameter of my 12" Remo does seem more forgiving in my sloppiness as I learn, and it may be more comfortable on the arms / hands in general; but I almost feel as if perhaps it may encourage a bit of sloppiness in striking the drum, too. I'm not sure, but that has been my observation as an untrained newbie. Also, the small Benzara djembe is lighter in my lap than the Remo, although you can use a belt strap with the Remo and tilt it on the ground.11) One last thing to note: I have observed Indonesian rope-tuned djembes to have carrying handles parallel to the verticals (the vertical sections of the tuning rope), whereas I believe the West African ones will tend to have horizontal handles / ones perpendicular to the verticals, toward the top rings. Since I am a novice, I do not know if this affects tuning or playability. My Remo also has a horizontal handle -- like many West African rope-tuned djembes -- which I use with a waist belt to tip the djembe and get better bass with a comfortable angle for my hands / arms. With this little Benzara, I find the handle fairly useless and just position the drum in my lap. It takes a little adjustment to get its base sound, but it's light enough that it's relatively doable.Anyway, for the most part, I basically like this size and style of drum and have found both this little Benzara and my larger Remo rather enjoyable to play. If you wish to use this little Benzara djembe for home decor, provided it's the right size and style for your room, this size Benzara Indonesian djembe may be a good choice. If you would like to learn to play, tune and maintain a rope-tuned djembe, I'd probably recommend one with a stem ring (bottom ring) and some djembe tuning rope tucked in for customization. (You can supposedly add more rope to make the drumhead more taut; it's just that the Benzara drumhead arrived so taut that I wouldn't try that on the original drumhead.)

Great drum for beginner (because of the quality) or someone that wants a drum they don’t have to be extra careful with (because of the price). My instructor said this was a good drum for the price and that it could take past beginner if I wanted. I think most people buy different ones when they know more about playing. Construction is good and picture etched into the side is smooth and free of splinters. The inside has some rough spots but using your hand on the inside is a more advanced technique so I’m not worried about it too much. For the price and my experience level, I couldn’t be happier. I recommend this to others.

I bought this for my great grandson’s first birthday and he opened it at his birthday party. His eyes lit up so bright! Mind you, he’s not even walking yet, but he stood right up, holding onto it, and knew just what to do. I think it’s very well made. I’ve had a few Djembe drums in the past, full sized ones, and the craftsmanship and sound on this one rivals those. It’s a real drum, not just a prop!

This is positioned as a 15" djembe. That implies the diameter. It is tiny and 15" tall! Sorry but that is very misleading. Not worth the price at all.

Beautiful looking drum but smaller diameter than I ordered so sent it back. I want to actually use it that’s why I ordered a certain size
