i've made hard cider every fall for as long as i've been an adult, and that's been a while. as i've gotten older it's getting harder for me to care for the cider over the cold fall months like it needs to be so i've been making smaller batches.i got a couple jars of store bought cider to test this device and i'm telling you i may make a larger batch before fall.the fit on my one gallon carboy was perfect and with a little bit of extra hook and loop fastener i was able to get it on my 5 gallon glass carboy which makes it extremely versatile and a great value for the cost. the buttons on the "remote" are like the old iPod buttons making it feel easier to use and the electrical cord is long enough that it's not in the way. i know it says it comes with a thermometer but old habits die hard and i got my side wall stickers and they said about the same with a little variation.while i was watching it i never saw major temperature fluctuations and because it can go below 70 degrees F i can fine tune it to my yeast so this should be an interesting batch...

So I ordered this for my sourdough starter to keep it warm when the weather is cold. It works exactly as described. I do find that the probe is a little difficult to place on the jar properly, but I just regularly check the temp of my starter when trying to get it active. I am playing around with the temps to see what is the best middle ground for my purpose. The pad was designed to wrap around a larger jar, not just a mason jar but it still works. I just wrap it around my jar loosely. It goes around it a couple times about. It keeps the area surrounding the jar at a warmer temp. I also cover the whole thing with a light dish towel. This system works well for me and does what I need it to do.It is a good value at the current price on Amazon. I like this better than a pad that sits under the jar. This way the heat is more evenly distributed.

3 stars to start off with because the instructions are pretty bad. If you tell people to press the SET button please tell them which button that is. The product page on Amazon also does not include any type of instruction. Frustrating so far. As for the timing function I don't know how to tell it to differentiate between 8 hours or 8 days. It isn't really necessary since I don't think it actually "sets" a timer and then turns off the heat. You will need to keep track of the time yourself. So far, I would definitely say don't waste your money.UPDATE:3/3/2025I can't get it to stay warm for longer than 12 hours so it really doesn't help for making Kombucha at all.

I have not yet been able to test this as planned because I need a larger container. I focused on the word "sourdough," rather than on the fact that it is too long to wrap around my starter jar. I will update the review once I can test it as originally intended (for sourdough starter and proofing). This review is for ASIN: B0DQTHF4Q9Digital Kombucha Heating Wrap with Precise Temperature Control and Timer Function - Kombucha Starter Kit, the Ideal Fermentation Heating Pad for Kombucha and Sourdough

This Kombucha heating wrap is aptly suited for all fermentation needs, making it perfect for DIY homebrewers and bakers alike. Ensuring optimal ambient temperatures for your fermenting goods is made easy with this simple, yet effective heating wrap.Making contents warm and not hot ensures the yeast to thrive, multiply, and efficiently convert sugars into alcohol or carbon dioxide crucial in bread leavening. To assist in this endeavor with pinpoint accuracy, it comes with a built-in temperature probe with a timer feature. The user can set the heating on a timer up to 12 hours or just have it turned on at all times. Further, it only uses up to 14 watts per hour, equivalent to that used by a modern LED light bulb commonly used in households. If I had to pick a downside, it'd be that the wrap is only large enough to support up to 3 gallons in receptacle size. Not a big deal, but I'd still urge the reader to make sure that it'd fit their wares before moving forward with a purchase. 5 out of 5 stars for its ease of use, low cost in both energy use and value. Highly recommended for all recipes calling for heat as a catalyst.

I ordered this heating wrap to help warm my sourdough starter. It was a fail for several reasons.First, the wrap itself is somewhat stiff and I found it cumbersome to mold around a pint Mason jar. Because it is apparently designed for a much larger diameter jar, I simply double-wrapped it around my jar. Unfortunately the Velcro strap wasn't planned well, and I had to twist it 180 degrees so it could attach to itself. I later began using rubber bands ... a much simpler solution. When I set the dial to go to 80*F, it never got there, even after 8 hours. The device reported 78*F, but my known accurate temperature probe said 74.1*F. Meh, this is an okay device but I wouldn't want to depend on it.

For the price, this should really work better. It can't be used on smaller mason jars. Only 1 gallon and above. The temperature sensor suction cups to the outside, and doesn't seem to give an accurate temperature reading. The display is easy to use, but when set to 87 degrees F, and after 1 hour, it still says 71 degrees, which is what it was when I filled the jar. So no change in display or temp. The description says it should reach temp in 12 minutes. The mat does feel warmer, but doesn't do a good job of heating the jar. And there were no instructions in the packaging, so either there is a quality control issue, or I received a faulty or returned item. Not happy.
