I had an issue on my '05 Wrangler where the fan speed switch only worked at the highest level. I thought it was the switch cluster but I replaced that and still had the issue. After some research I found that the resistor sometimes causes this problem. This installed as expected and worked to fix the issue.

Fit perfectly for the Jeep Wrangler Sport I bought it for. Install was not exactly easy but that’s due to the Jeep design more than the part itself. Definitely cheaper than auto part stores.

This is a fix for when you heater/A/C blower is only working on high.Okay, here is how you replace this resistor. I have 2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon other Jeep Wranglers should be fairly close (97-06 Jeeps). Please Read entire post before trying any part of it.(All work is done on passenger side of Jeep behind glovebox or from under the dash)Tools required:8mm socket 1/4"1/4" small ratchet wrench (one with grip head is best) I used without thoughPh2 screw driverPictures above help locate the resistor.Remove the Negative cable from your battery.1. Remove the glovebox. (optional remove passenger door for more access or lift door strap so door can be opened all the way around. I have a Snorkle kit on my jeep and door only opens half-way and I was able to access with out removing the passenger door.)2. If you have floor lights remove the passenger light, has one screw holding in place. The Door light is pictured above hanging in the posted photos. You need to remove light to get access to resistor. Disconnect the light or put spring locks on the door button to keep the lights off so you do not burn yourself on it. The spring locks are those things used when you are driving without doors. (I will edit and try posting a link to the door spring locks if someone needs it)3. DO NOT REMOVE the harness to the resistor untill you have uninstalled the 2 8mm hex screws and have pulled it out and the resistor is hanging and accessible.4. Remove the two screws holding the resistor in place. It is tricky to get top screw, try from both the glove box opening or from under the dash, you will only get small movements on ratchet while removing.5. Once you got the screws removed, pull the resistor out. You will have to jiggle and work it out. some of the wiring around it makes this a hard job to due. However it does not appear you can break anything when pulling out the resistor.6. Once you got the resistor out and hanging make sure you have the same or good replacement part. Then slide the red clip to unlock the harness and remove the old resistor from the harness. I used my flat head screw driver to give the red clip a little push from its underside and it slide out enough to where I could push the rest with my finger from the top.7. Remove the old resistor, may have to jiggle a little but it will seperate.8. Install new resistor. Push the red clip back in to lock the new resistor in place so it does not come loose and cause problems.9. Start following everything backwards, however once you get the resistor in place and screwed in. Test out your blower controls to make sure this solved the problem. (install the negative battery cable if you removed to test.) If this solved the problem and your blower works on all settings then fisish putting everything back together. If not either try another resistor or check fuses. However from what I heard a fuse is hardly ever the cause for blower only working on high.NOTE: I read it is a rare issue that the control selector could be the problem. I heard you can wiggle the control knob with engine off and the key turned all the way on before starting. Turn blower to high, if works turn to lower selections and wiggle and see if you hear the motor trying to run. If not you need to replace the resistor.Any questions ask, if you see any errors let me know and will correct. This is about a 30 min job, once you know what you are doing. Minor skill needed. The reason your blower will work on high when the resistor has gone bad is because it is only setting hard wired from the blower motor.I have had my 2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon over 10 years and this is second time the resistor has gone bad.

My Jeep loves to go through these things. This last one lasted 2 years to the month. It does its job, it’s just a bad design from Jeep.

Disappointed that I only got to replacing it when the return window had expired. Looks like a good quality product but unfortunately was not for my Ex-Japan, 2005 Wrangler Sport with an Automatic Shifter
