I own several pairs of stainless steel fishing forceps. None of my other forceps are as long as these Dr. Hook models nor do any of my other pairs possess the 90 degree tips. So, here are the positives as I see them. I photographed a pair of my old forceps alongside the the Dr. Hook set and you can clearly see the extra length. That will be helpful when reaching a hook in a deep-hooked fish. The 90 degree angle helps in terms of gripping the hook without the tool itself obscuring your view. Further, the right angle helps when it comes to needing a hard twisting motion (torque) to dislodge a hook. The very nicely interlocking teeth (pictured) and the right angle work against distortion in the tips while twisting. Nice! The stainless steel is a necessary component especially for use in salt water. As you can see in my photos, my old forceps still ended up with some rust. I suspect the Dr. Hook forceps will rust a bit over time with saltwater use. I just use a Dremel and a wire brush to clean off the rust after each season. The locking mechanism is nice but, in my experience, a bit too easy to engage. You can see that on my old pair of forceps I cut off several of the lock stops because they were engaging even when I didn't want them to. I will likely cut off at least the first tooth of the Dr. Hook locks and see how it goes from there. This is not a criticism as much as a personal preference. Finally, my only complaint is that the forceps do not include a scissors at the base like my old forceps. There is plenty of room at the base of the teeth to have included a scissors, but nope. The price point is a touch high compared to similar forceps but it is an admirably crafted item. Fours stars all day long!

This hemostat is well-crafted and of high quality, surpassing some "medical grade" options. Its size is suitable for various fishing applications, particularly for removing deeply embedded hooks. It is an excellent choice for anglers of all types, from fly fishermen to bass anglers.

These Dr. Fish forceps are nice, 8" stainless-steel locking forceps with 90 degree right angle gripping jaws that are easy to use to remove fish hooks with minimum force and damage. They enable the easy and controlled removal of hooks; and thanks to the locking feature, you can let go of the forceps and maintain your purchase on the hook if they slip out of your hand or the fish is difficult to secure. These are long enough to reach almost any hook that is recoverable, and they are identical to the operating room forceps that I have always used for this purpose - except these have the cool Dr. Fish logo. Forceps like these are useful for a lot of different things, but this pair will live with my fishing gear. Five stars because these are something every fisherman should own, and these are the archetypical proven design.

This is a well built hemostat made for fishing. Made from quality stainless steel, and nicely ground to avoid any sharp edges. The jaws do close with precision alignment of the serrations at the tips. The hinge is tight with no slop or extra play. These have a 6.5 inch reach from the bottom of the finger loops to the tip, which provides excellent reach for most hook removal situations. Definitely recommended.
