About this item

  • Half Smooth and Half Cross Hatch Jaw Structure
  • Pin-In Shank
  • Gold Loops or All Black
  • Straight or Curved
  • 4", 5.5", or 6.5" Sizes

Clamps are designed for a myriad of tasks like crushing barbs, removing hooks from fish (or yourself!), opening/closing split shot, knot-tying, cutting tippet, etc. Knowing what tasks you regularly perform stream-side will help you select the clamp(s) that best suit your angling needs. Clamps tend to be a very personal item, and like a favorite rod or reel, people have preferences for their clamps. Some anglers like short clamps and others prefer long. Some like straight jaws while others prefer curved. Many like the gold loops/handles and others prefer the stealth-mode black. So, if you lose your buddy's 5” curved black clamp, don’t assume the 4” gold loop straight model you gave him off your vest will clear the air.
SALT WATER
If you're angling in salt water, consider using the black oxidized or prism finished clamps which provide an extra layer of protection. For clamp longevity in salt water, rinse your clamps in fresh water and apply a little oil.
CLAMP SIZING
Match the clamp to the size of the flies you're using. Generally, the shorter the clamp the smaller and lighter the jaws, and the longer the clamp the larger and heavier the jaws. A 4-inch clamp will struggle crushing a barb on a #4 streamer and a 6-inch clamp will be too large for removing a #22 midge cluster from a fish.
METAL
All clamps are made from 410 Japanese stainless steel with a Rockwell hardness of 42.
Dr. Slick Scissor Clamps: The most versatile series we make and able to handle all streamside tasks. Serrated scissor for cutting tippet/leader material, trimming flies or performing streamside surgery, no joke..we have dozens of stories (and unfortunately some photos) from angling MD’s and non-doctors who have used these clamps to sew up lacerated anglers or remove hooks fr

I recently purchased some forceps from sportsmans and the quality was not great. Sometimes forceps can lock too tight and can be very obnoxious to unlock them, others are lacking in the quality. These dr slick forceps are amazing. They are very sturdy, the locks are just tight enough without being annoying to unlock. The scissors are sharp, great for fly tying or cutting lines, or anything else you would need them for while fishing. The price point really isnt bad either, considering low quality ones are 5-10 dollars cheaper.

Love these grippers. Have a lot of dr slick tools and this one doesn’t disappoint either. My favorite part is the line cutter built in. Cuts down on having another thing to carry.

I read the reviews before purchasing, I was concerned about some negative reviews over stiffness and not cutting braided line. I got the longer 7 inch ones and I am VERY SATISFIED. Yes they are stiff at first but they are sturdy. Once you figure out how to open them with your one hand it’s fairly simple. The eye cleaner for painted over eyes is a pleasant surprise and very handy! No it doesn’t cut braided line very well so be aware of that if you fish with braid and plan to use them for that. The blades are serrated and cut mono like butter. For me they are awesome and worth the extra price.

I was okay with forceps and scissors I had been using, but with advancing age came arthritis in my hands. Standing in freezing water and trying to perform a deft "operation" convinced me to look for the best alternative. I think I found it in these.

I am an avid Fisherman and have tried at least half a dozen different clamps/hemostats in the search for the ideal pair. No more searching necessary! These are better quality, heaver duty, larger finger/thumb holes, curved ends and even has a screwdriver! The scissors are so strong and sharp that I've used them to cut branches to get my lure back. Also, they are designed so you rarely have to actually use the locking feature because they stay in place w/o having to use the clamp. I fish almost every day, so take my advice, they are worth paying a little more than the cheap ones! Dr. Slick knew what he was doing when he designed these!

Best hemostats I’ve owned in over 70 years of fishing; very high quality and much better than the cheap ones that cost $3.00 or so. The scissors work great for regular fishing line, but they don’t work for cutting braid. These are nice enough forceps, though, that I can’t even deduct a star for that minor inconvenience. They’re designed for the fly fisherman, and for me they’re as close to perfect as any I’ve ever seen. Great forceps; I give them 5 stars without hesitation.
