Care and Washing Recommendations

Wool Detergent

Use a Wool Friendly Soap

We recommend using a mild liquid soap or a wool specific detergent - no bleach or stain removers. Like all loom-woven blankets, it is normal for some minimal shedding and shrinkage to occur during the first few washes

Hand Wash

Use Cold Water

To extend the life of your wool blanket, we recommend hand washing in cold water (a partially filled bathtub works great for this)

Washing Machine

Use a Delicate Cycle

You may also machine wash your blanket separately in cold water using a gentle cycle - but do not use a washer with a center agitator. This blanket may also be dry cleaned if desired

Line Dry

Air Dry Without Heat

Use your washer's spin cycle to remove excess water - then line dry or lay flat to dry away from direct heat. Do not tumble dry using heat. Once the blanket is dry - use the no heat 'air fluff' dryer cycle to 'vacuum off' any loose blanket fibers

Helpful Info

  • Virgin vs. Recycled Wool Fibers: Blankets made using recycled wool fibers can be problematic because of odors or impurities from their past lives. They also tend to shed more because recycled wool fibers are shorter. While new virgin wool fibers are more costly to use, they do make a much cleaner and more premium blanket. If a wool blanket is not specifically advertised as "virgin", chances are that it contains recycled wool fibers
  • Comfort Tips: We'd recommend keeping an additional layer of fabric between your skin and your wool blanket. For a chilly outdoor event - just wrap up and enjoy the coziness! For your sleeping bag - wrap the blanket around the outside of your bag for additional thermal insulation. For your bed at home - sandwich wool blankets between cotton sheets, other blankets and/or your bedspread
  • No Need to Wash Before Use: While you can pre-wash your blanket if you'd like - your blanket was already pre-washed at the factory and does not need to be washed before use. Also note that blankets advertised as "triple washed during production" tend to be made from recycled wool (which needs more extensive washing to combat odors and impurities that may be present in the recycled wool fibers)
  • Recommended Washing Frequency: Wool blankets generally don't need frequent washing - and will last longer by only doing so when it's clearly needed. To maintain freshness we recommend periodically airing your blanket outside. Minor soiling can be gently brushed off - or sponged off with a damp cloth
  • Recommendations to Improve Wool Odor: First - please realize that wool itself certainly has a different smell to it than cotton or polyester - especially if it is damp. If there are any lingering odors you'd like to eliminate - the best remedy we've found is to let the blanket air outside in the sun and breeze for a day or two (works even if temperatures are colder)
  • Blanket Temperature Ratings: It's difficult to give temperature ranges that are actually useful because of the subjective nature of what constitutes 'warm' from one person to another. Given this we'd recommend thinking of your sleep system in terms of layers. Too cold? Add a layer. Too hot? Remove one. Given the weight of EKTOS blankets and the unique properties of wool, we believe you'll find them to be a valuable part of your layering strategy

This 100% virgin wool blanket is excellent! It is much softer than I was expecting and quite hefty. I bought a queen sized blanket for my king sized bed and it fits nicely with enough over hang (about 5-6 inches on each side) to cover me well but without hanging below my duvet (see photos). I did a lot of research on wool blankets and am so happy I decided to purchase this one. Some reviewers mentioned an odor with their blanket. I did not experience that. Mine had a very slight smell that dissipated after about 12 hours of airing out. (I am sensitive to smells and get headaches from smells easily and had NO problem with this blanket.)If you are looking for a well made, warm, soft, wool blanket at an affordable price, you’ve found it!

These are excellent heavy non-see thru blankets . They are exceptionally durable and very warm. I am so happy with them that I bought two of them and I am considering buying a third. They would be great for camping in cold weather and they are large enough to cover the whole entire bed and then some. I highly recommend them and if you purchase one i am sure you will not be disappointed.overall a really great product at an honest price for what you get..definitely 5 stars

This blanket is wool of some sort. It’s quite firm, not stiff; however, simply flat. Don’t think squishy soft cuddle up blanket. Has a distinct smell, not of animal, as I’d expect somewhat, but of something like gasoline/petroleum to me. I have not washed it as of yet. I placed it folded on the foot of my bed. It is not shedding, Is the dark grey color, as I selected. Not heavy. Serves purpose of keeping my feet warm! As with most things in these times, I’d say a bit overpriced (subjective) for what I’m seeing with this blanket.

I don't get all these pp complaining about smell ... maybe because I wash them w ' Dirty Labs ' or 'The Laundress' wool shampoo as soon as I get them & hang them outside all day to dry ... but all I get is wet or dry wool smell . I have a 22 ft Tipi w 3 beds & use it year round & have tried many brands from 80% to 100% wool ( & these are 90%-100% not 80%) I like these best . Like most inexpensive wool blankets some are a percentage recycled wool which is a little closer to ' felted / condensed wool ' than fluffy expensive wool blankets .... but that's why they are as inexpensive as they are as well . The 100% wool throws are amazing & a little more plush ( & always sell out 1st ) & the 100% virgin blankets are the same ( the heavy 100% non virgin ones almost have a ribbed vs consistent feel of the weave ) .In winter we pile them on our beds when we let the fire go out & w wool being ' self cleaning ' the smell of smoke comes out hung in wind ... unlike cotton (or any other fabric ). I seem to always need more coz if we have a guest that loves them they always seem to get one to take home !The only part I DONT like is they sell out coz they ARE the best ones & then I'm looking on eBay to find more !

While the wool blanket seemed to be heavy duty and would be warm, the blanket had a very strong odor. It smelled like motor oil. I believe the fleece wasn't properly washed to get the natural oil out before spinning. Washing did not remove the smell. I would not recommend.

I'm an avid minimalist RV camper. I've been looking for the right wool blanket for my RV. I have a few Pendleton blankets which are certainly nice but not nearly as thick and more than twice the price. And I have a few Poyet wool blankets which are fantastic but a bit fancy for a camp blanket. I almost went with the Arcturus to save a few buck but decided to give this one a try in spite of a few negative reviews based on smell. I'm very sensitive to any chemical smells. I was traveling in cold wet conditions when the blanket arrived at my camp. Right out of the package it went on my bunk and I had no odor problem. It's far heavier than my Pendleton blankets and more rugged than the Poyets. It's also longer lengthwise than the Arcturus blanket which helps tremendously. This quickly became my favorite blanket. For the price it's an absolute steal.

100% wool makes this blanket warm for how lightweight it is. Great size for a sofa blanket and big enough to top of the bed if the night gets a little chilly. Careful wash on delicate cycle with low or no heat in the dryer keeps the size and shape. Really like not having to take this to the dry cleaners! Edge stitching is great and will help maintain the quality.

UPDATE:I have washed this blanket three times now and added scented softener to the water, in order to attempt to cover the smell. It has been left outside to dry and air out for the last 4 days in the sun. The diesel smell is reduced a tiny bit, but not enough to use the blanket inside, or even outside on a regular basis. My hands still smell of the diesel smell after handling it for some time. I will have to continue my search for another wool blanket as this one is going in the trash. I am so sad, because even though the blanket is excellent quality, it is absolutely unusable due to the fuel-like smell. Hopefully, this was just a random batch that they have an issue with, as I noticed another reviewer had the same issue. All that being said, the seller did reach out and offer a full refund. I do appreciate that.*******I can tell the blanket is good quality. However, I am not sure it will EVER be usable. I just received it today, and it absolutely reeks of diesel or machine oil. So much so, that when I open my sliding door to where it is airing outside, I immediately smell the fuel smell and not the outdoors! I will attempt everything to get the smell out of this and make it usable, but it isn’t usable as is because your hands even smell like diesel after touching it. It’s quite horrendous. Will update in a few days on the results of attempting to save this purchase.
