Placing a HY-C Fireback on the back wall of your fireplace shields masonry from 1/3 of the heat that would otherwise cause deterioration while radiating more heat and reflecting more light from the fire into the room. The 14 gauge stainless steel construction is lighter weight than cast iron allowing for easier placement. Slotted base allows for adjustable installation from 65 to 90 degrees. The black painted finish on the fireback may peel or crack due to extreme heat. Firebacks may be cleaned, lightly sanded, and painted with high temperature paint. Made in the USA.

I was surprised by how heavy duty this fireback heat deflector is! The main panel seems a lot thicker than 14 gauge. It's a great value, and made in the USA!

There's no point getting this fireback in black. The paint came off the first fire we had revealing the stainless behind it. Now it just looks bad. I'm disappointed.Update: Contacted the seller who is replacing the item with stainless steel version. Customer service was good so I raised my star rating from 2 to 4.

This unit is solid and heavy. It’s a good thickness and did not warp from heat. It protects the back of my fireplace well but did discolor and we did not notice a difference in heat output.

Fits well in back of fireplace, and may help to reflect heat. Black paint burned off quickly. I repainted with black stove paint...but also did not last.
