I have a GREG SMITH TOOLS 25 gallon portable tank with pump. We live in a rural area andthe nearest gas 10 miles away they price gouge and the price is near $5.00 a gallon...I use the tank to keep fuel at my detached garage at my property so I always have fuelavailable for my motorcycles, etc. The pump on the GREG SMITH tank went bad after littleuse and only a little over a year old. I decided rather than order another cheap replacementthat was the same instead I would try the Tuthill SD62. Boy am I glad I did. This pump works MUCH better...The flow rate is MUCH higher and I can fill my motorcycle tanks a lot faster. To install this one on the GREG SMITH portable tank...1) Remove the flexible hose from the old pump.2) Remove the old pump from the tank.3) Remove the black adapter on the end of the pipe coming from the tank.4) Screw on the Tuthill SD 62 pump on to the pipe coming from the tank.5) Screw the flexible hose you removed from the old pump on to the SD62 pump.Do be careful when installing the handle on this SD62 pump. It comes with a very cheap screwand when tightening it I broke the head off the screw but the screw is installed and thehandle is secure so I won't have a problem unless I need to remove the handle in whichcase I'll have to drill out the old screw but I figure by the time this pump goes badI'll just replace it with another so it shouldn't be an issue.Very glad I went with this pump.

Works great for me. After i am done pumping fuel into the jug or tractor i turn the handle backwards and it takes the fuel out of the hose and back into the barrel. The only thing that pissed me off was that Amazon lowerd the price of the pump the day after i got it in the mail. Oh i did get rid of the exit pipe. I replaced it with some fittings and reduced it down to 1/2 inch for a smaller hose. I bought 5ft of clear hose from ace. Worked out great.

Great price, free shipping, no taxes, that's why I love Amazon. I bought one of these 3 years ago for kerosene and just got this one for gasoline, it's a very high quality hand pump and if assembled right, you shouldn't have any problems with it. I've read other reviews about hand pumps where folks complain about them losing their prime after pumping half the barrel or so. I think the biggest reason for this is not using the Teflon tape or not applying it correctly, using the supplied tape is a must and make sure you apply it in the same direction you're going to be screwing the pipes or fittings together. If it's a right hand thread, apply the Teflon tape in a right hand direction, then it won't peel back as you tighten the fittings. I bought a hose kit with the first pump and I think I'm going to do the same with this one. It makes it much easier to fill cans and jugs with a hose on the out-bound side. The body is cast iron not cast aluminum, the suction tube is metal not some polymer and it goes together in three sections, it's not telescopic. All that being better in my opinion.

Admiration, amusement and irritation. And that's just for the documentation. Nowhere anywhere on the on-line documentation or on the outside of the package does the word "water" appear. The instruction sheet (packed inside the box so you have to buy the pump to read it) says NO WATER. Pretty clearly, they're counting on the purchaser who wants to pump water keeping the pump and using it, instruction sheet or no instruction sheet. And, with me at least, they won one. I'm pumping water and I have no come back when there's rust. They plainly said "NO WATER". And now I'm saying it too.The intake line is sized for 55 gallon barrels and is not adjustable. When the pump is mounted in a 30 gallon plastic barrel, the intake mounting ring pulls out of the plastic threads on the barrel fill opening because the pump head is at an awkward height vis-a-vis the barrel top and the pump handle has two hard turn places per rotation so there's to and fro stress. Nothing is broken, but now the pump intake line wanders freely all over the inside of the barrel and the pump head wanders equally freely. Doubtless it works better with a metal 55 gallon barrel. The lever action pump with the adjustable intake line length and barrel mounting threads integral with the pump head worked better in this regard and was cheaper. But it leaked. They were shy about the WATER word, too. And the hose connection adapter didn't. So now I have a pump I'm not at all thrilled with and I'm keeping it.

See the update below, based upon first actual use. The initial review was based upon putting the unit together. The pump is good. I can't complain about that. It is a US company, but this is made in China as stated on the box.The threads are NPT, but off a little? I used a standard piece of pipe for a little more length, and attached the strainer to it, and it broke the strainer easily. It was not an issue with over-torque, or stripping threads, it just broke the strainer... I estimate at appoximately 35 ft-lbs. I put it the rest of the way on anyway, and it seems to function, but when the fluid level gets below the big crack, it will probably lose suction.I contacted the manufacturer and received ZERO response. Thank heavens it wasn't the pump that broke.UPDATE: I definitely should have bought the one for half this price. I went for this one, because the other had reviews saying the seal leaks with diesel fuel. I finally used this pump for the first time today. It leaks with diesel fuel as well. I am very Disappointed in the Value of this product. I paid ~54 for the same quality I could have had for ~25.

Excellent product, speedy delivery, easy to put together, works as promised - what's not too like? It seems heavy duty enough - I've got it hooked to a 100 gal square tank that I store diesel for torpedo heaters in - and use the pump to fill the heaters. A good price and it seems beefy enough. Time will tell...

It does what it is supposed to when it is supposed to do it.Seems to be pretty well made. The internals are cast iron so if you run water through it, give it a flush with diesel or solvent. We use it for pumping water off the bottom of fuel tanks so we put 3/4 " pipe extensions on the inlet side.It performs that task very well.

Seen a different one for the same price but made in China. I bought this one instead cause it’s made in the USA. Works great for dirty fuel, just gotta go backwards sometimes if it isn’t flowing much fuel to unclog the mesh screen at the bottom of the pickup tube. Should last forever.
