It looks like a plastic trash bag. I am unaware of it’s flame retardant properties but, it is thin and cheap.

Rug is super thin, almost more like fabric then a rug. It does the job well enough but doesn’t stay put very well.

Fits perfect in front of the fireplace. It’s black and you can see the fibers in it, but I didn’t get a splinter like the other reviews said. I dont wear shoes in the house and I’ve stepped on it many times and no issues. Good value and will buy again if needed. Thanks

Used this in front of the wood stove to protect our new carpet. It didn’t work, coals fell onto the mat and the bottom melted into the carpet. Ruined the brand new carpet.

I am pleased with the coverage size. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and have had no problems with the mat. There hasn't been a large ember to land on the mat so I can't yet say how well it will hold up in that situation.However, I can attest to It holding up well to one of my cats trying to use it for her nails, lol.It's nice and thin also, so there's not much of a trip hazard which is a bonus! I haven't had a problem with the mat moving much. I will use some stays if I have any problems with it moving around.As the winter goes on I will update my review to show how well the mat is holding up. Though I must say, I am rather hoping to not find out just how well it holds up to hot embers! Thus far I am happy with the mat. Hope this helps someone! Be Well

I redid the floors about 3 months ago. I had a big chunk of red hot embers fall out of the stove, and this kept it from ruining the floor. If you have a fireplace or wood stove, you need this!
