I have seen these types of Forstner Drill Bits promoted on several YouTube videos though the price for a whole set was a little outside my budget. I saw the individual bits for sale here and I bought two sizes the 3/4" and 1" since these are two sizes I use most frequently. I used the 3/4" size today on a project and drilled probably 25 through holes in plywood and the last hole was as good as the first. The bit stayed cool, appears to stay sharp and makes a very clean and smooth hole. I was very impressed, and the bit lived up to all the good reviews in the videos. I will need to seriously save up to buy a whole set.

I have a set of forstner bits and they just never cut well, so i thought I'd try these. They cut cleanly and smoothly. Tried it on baltic birch plywood and then maple. Beautiful cuts, clean top and bottom. They are more expensive than others, but if you can they are worth it.

Fisch Forstner bits really are exceptional but if you are perusing Amazon looking at Forstner bits you probably knew that already. They cut very clean, buttery smooth holes and they make you look good doing it. You feel a little… what? privileged or special using them. The drawback, of course, is the price. It is just more practical to purchase the Ryobi or Drill Master set. Any semi-reputable brand will accomplish the same thing with minimal tear out at a fraction of the cost. I purchased this single bit to replace a dull 3/4” bit that’s been rolling off my drill press table on to the concrete floor for years. Now I feel I have to treat this Fisch like it’s my newborn grandson. Caring for it has complicated things for me in the shop a bit, (like having to be aware and responsible) but I do feel so “special” at those times I need a 3/4” hole drilled. Who knew purchasing Forstner bits could complicate life so much? And I thought bringing my Lie-Nielsen block plane into the house was life altering!

after using a couple of other brands, bought this one to try and see what I thought...and yeah, it's just better. The sidewalls of the hole are sooooo smooth. The rim is clean and razor smooth/sharp. The bottom is flat. Period. No burn marks or scoring anywhere. It's just a good, clean hole.Have fun with that.

I needed to make a very clean and precise angled hole that later was to be plugged with a bung. I was working with the test piece firmly clamped onto on my full sized drill press so that the set up was as stable as reasonably possible. I tried spade bits both with and without spurs. I tried an Irwin Forstner bit and I still wasn't getting the precision I was looking for. I tried using a hole saw first and then final drilling with the Irwin Forstner. That worked fairly well but still was not perfect and required changing out the hole saw for the drill bit and digging out the waste wood in the center of the hole before proceeding. The bung would only fit loosely in any of these resulting hole(s) and did not have that nice tight fit I was hoping for.It turns out that many Forstner bits have saw tooth circumferences, which is what the Irwins have. Some have a sort of "straight sharp" blade outer circumference, and some, including the Fisch under review here and the Freud have a sort of wavy sharp circumference. That wavy edge is the key to getting a clean precise start on an angled hole.I bought both Fisch and Freud bits because I wasn't sure if one would be better than the other. They are both excellent. Both are far superior to the Irwin when drilling on an angle. (The Irwin does just fine for a straight bore.) Only having made a few holes so far I will give the Freud the nod, but the difference is almost imperceptible. Some say the Fisch will last longer than Freud but I won't be using either of them enough to make that determination.

I didn't realize until I had opened the package and drilled a hole that they sent me the wrong size. I ordered a 1-1/4" bit. When I drill drilled the hole it was too large, so I looked at the package. It is a 1-3/8" bit. I like the bit, but it is the wrong size. I was very disappointed. I had ordered it for a project, and this caused a delay in completion of the project.
