I did a lot of research into these and was getting rather frustrated trying to find a good, sturdy, reliable pepper mill. Eventually I settled on this, I think for the sole reason that it was American made, but also it was moderately priced, wasn't cheap Chinese junk that will break in a year, and also wasn't some high-end overpriced boutique-brand where you're paying a premium for the name on the label so you can impress someone who might stumble into your kitchen.Overall I like the mill, it does what I need it to do which isn't much - consistently grind pepper and it look good on my counter. Hopefully it actually lasts... I'm a month into ownership and haven't had any problems. Is it worth the 60 bucks I paid? I don't know... I'm still trying to wrap my head around price increases for everything nowadays. :(

I spent a long, too long, time searching for a satisfactory pepper grinder. I have had the glass/stainless steel hourglass-shaped ones, and the problem is that the ceramic grinding mechanism fails when the little plastic retention ring falls out. Once that happens, they won’t work again, and you can’t fix them. So I started looking elsewhere, and came across this old-fashioned pepper grinder, with some new features and stainless steel parts, all designed and made in the USA. It has a unique locking mechanism for your grind setting. The nut on top of the grinder adjusts the fineness of the grind, like you’d expect, but the trick is that, as you are adjusting the nut, you push up on the bottom of the grinder. It’s spring-loaded, so it moves the shaft up a little, and the teeth in the bottom of the nut then re-set, into a toothed washer built into the lid when you release pressure on the bottom of the grinder. That holds your exact grinder setting until you want to change it to coarser or finer. That’s pretty cool, and makes the fineness almost infinitely adjustable! The pepper grinder itself is made of solid wood and the parts are well-machined stainless steel. This is a chef-grade piece of equipment. I got the 6†walnut stained grinder, and it’s a nice size. Not too tall or short, and it fits and feels nice in your hand. Easy to fill, although you do have to readjust the grinder setting after you fill it since you have to remove the nut and lid to access the center shaft where the pepper goes. You can easily clean the entire grinder when you refill simply by pushing the mechanism from the bottom and pulling the shaft and attached grinder mechanism out of the top. Brush everything off, don’t use water, and then reinsert everything until you hear/feel it engage with the base. Don’t grind salt in this. that would ruin it. They make a salt grinder for that!

I have had my eye on either a Fletchers Mill or a Peugeot (made in France) pepper mill for some time, and when I saw the 12" Fletchers Mill on sale for the holidays I jumped on it as I prefer to buy USA when it makes sense. From a product perspective it works wonderfully well, its stainless steel mechanism can grind peppercorns nice and coarse or fine as dust depending on how you set it. Beautiful cherry wood, nice feel in the hand, made in the U.S.A. quality through and through. Comes with a little instruction pamphlet which, if you take the time to read, will make using and refilling the pepper mill easy as pie even for a 62 year old like me. Bottom line, thus far I am very happy with the product and the manufacturer Fletchers Mill. I will update this review in the future if that changes.I purchased this item direct from Amazon.com, not a 3rd party reseller. My only complaint is the ridiculous way Amazon shipped this beautiful piece of wooden craftsmanship to me. Why the heck Amazon.com could not have taken the time to place this pepper mill IN A BOX instead of a padded envelope befuddles me. The beautiful cherry wood can be damaged through rough shipping, getting dinged and dented by the time it gets to the recipient and ruining what should have been a wonderful product experience. I mean REALLY Amazon, do you really think shipping this heavy wooden pepper mill in an envelope is the right way to ship it, especially since I am paying you over $100 a year for PRIME shipping?? Amazon, please take this to heart and pass it along to your shipping people, DO NOT ship these beautiful pepper mills in envelopes, take the time to protect them with a box, your customers DESERVE it.

The Fletchers' Mill Federal Salt Mill in Walnut Stain is a testament to high-quality craftsmanship and functionality. Standing at 8 inches tall, this salt mill is not only aesthetically pleasing with its elegant walnut finish but also exceptionally durable. The adjustable coarseness feature is a standout, allowing for precise control from fine to coarse, catering to various culinary needs. The grinding mechanism operates smoothly, consistently delivering the desired texture of salt with ease. Overall, this salt mill is a top-notch kitchen tool that combines style, durability, and practicality, making it a valuable addition to any kitchen.

This is a beautiful salt shaker: well made and of nice wood. and matches the random pepper grinder I've had for years. I have two comments to make:1) the holes are small and I'm using regular, iodized table salt, so be prepared to shake several extra times if you like more than a pinch!2) The bottom of the canister has a silicone plug for refilling, which is all well and good except that you have to turn the shaker upside down to refill the salt. The salt then spills out through the holes, albeit slowly (see note above). I would recommend to the company that they redesign the shaker to have a screw top opening, which can easily be concealed in the lines of the aesthetic design and is much more practical and user-friendly.Other than that, a lovely, decorative, and purposeful salt shaker!

I am not entirely sure how this will hold up as to my understanding salt is INCREDIBLY hard on mills, but for now at least I find it an impressively essential part of my kitchen - it pairs well with my pepper mill as effective gadget, its incredibly pretty, and it gives you the ability to have an adjustable grind on salt all the way from a super light dusting to a coarser finishing.

We like the grinder but it seems like we need to fill it every couple of days. The reservoir is tiny compared to our previous grinder.

We received a model that was different from the picture but it was nice enough so we kept it. Loved it at first but after a couple of months we notice that it seemed to bind and stick on occasion. We adjusted it frequently to try and resolve the issue and removed and cleaned the grinding wheels. Made no real difference. What have found is that it does not work well if you like coarsely ground pepper. When set to a coarse grind it sticks and binds. We have to set it to a fine grind in order for it to work reliably but we prefer coarse grind. We will be buying a different grinder as a result.

It's a very high-quality product. Quite good performance too. After several trials and errors, very happy and satisfied with this product.
