I can’t speak for long-term, contractor-level use, but for the layperson, these are terrific. They come in a nice little plastic storage box and the three sizes cover a wide range of needs.I used these to widen the deadbolt receiver hole on a STEEL gate leading to my side yard. I had changed out the locking mechanism and realized the new bolt was more rounded than the typical rectangular ones, making it impossible for the bolt to fully engage. I was honestly worried I would try these bits and end up with nothing but worn-out bits, sweat, and no progress. Happily, it only took about 5 minutes to reshape the hole and widen it to a circular shape. The bits chewed right through the steel with my cordless 20V Dewalt and the project was finished way faster than I thought. The bit still feels sharp and doesn’t look damaged at all from the effort.I’ve only found the need (or thought of the need) for these a couple times as a homeowner. This is an excellent set for a regular guy or girl to have on-hand for household projects. I’m really impressed.

I’ve been building and fixing things for over 50 years. This is my first set of step drill bits, and I am impressed with how much time is saved by not having to change bits as a hole is enlarged. The pilot point doesn’t seem to take any longer to punch through steel than a traditional bit. A center punch will help keep the bit from walking, as I found out. The largest bit doesn’t utilize the 1/4” hex shank, but that’s ok for me since I have the Milwaukee 1/2” Magnum drill to use it in.Steel electrical and junction boxes are a breeze with these bits. The bits leave some burrs on the inside so be careful of sharp edges or deburr them before screwing clamps onto the new holes. One con was discovered: The size markings are a bit difficult to see so I had to measure the hole size when I got close to what I needed. Next time I will count the steps as they go through to final sizing. This five piece set was $33 compared to one Milwaukee step bit for nearly $100. I’ve always trusted the big red brand but for 1/3rd the price, this is a competitive option.Overall, I’m quite happy with this set and would recommend it to a friend.

Nothing in the ad copy mentions anything about these being used with an impact tool but the paper inside says, "Impact Ready". What does that mean? I was never under the impression that it would be a good idea to use step drill bits in an impact tool. I snapped the tip off of an HF step by just using a battery drill. Yes it is frustrating when these step bits bind but can this survive an impact wrench?Attempting to answer my own question, I very delicately tried that out while enlarging some existing holes in some 1/16" bed frame metal. It really worked well which just kept the drilling process going instead of twisting your hand off with a hang up but I don't know about the long term survival of these bits doing that. Starting a hole with that small end would be a particularly ticklish situation which is why I decided to test it by enlarging an existing hole instead. That aside, these bits performed as expected and cut really well. Trying to start a hole was pretty tough but it's always that way with these spiral bits of any make, it seems to me. I would suggest drilling a small hole with a regular bit first, then the step feature cuts pretty quickly after that. The case is really nice and I love the sliding front latch instead of the plastic snap latch which inevitably plastic fatigues and falls off at some point. I think the set is reasonably priced for what you get. Recommended.

Product Reviewed: Four Spiral Flute Step Drill Bit Set, 5PCS for $31TL;DR; Huge range of cuts; Hex fit is good on my gear; you won’t get a round holeI wanted a larger step drill for larger size holes in thin material. It fits the bill and I’ll keep this in my toolbox. The kit comes packaged in a blow mould case which has been discarded.Like a lot of these bits they look better than they perform. The cutting tip is split point so drilling straight in with just a centre punch hold is quite possible on all of them. Unfortunately they do not cut round holes. See pics. The LH photo is a single flute step drill from a brand name and the RH photo is from this kit.I expect bits like this to cut round holes so I’d call this an execution miss. I have to knock off a point for that. 4 Stars. It still cuts a hole PDQ but it will be rough. How I review:Reviews start with 5 stars and I subtract points.- 0 for value but I try to provide guidance-0.5 to -3 for product not matching description e.g. stainless steel is actually plated steel-0.5 to -3 for product missing badly on executionI select products carefully so low (1-3 scores) are rare but detailed comments and critiques almost always are in the review. Most of my reviews come out 4-5 range. If possible I dismantle or destroy items to examine inner workings.

I’ve used plenty of standard step drill bits in my days, but these were the first I’ve used in a spiral shape. I like how smoothly they cut, without any of the jumpiness that can occur with the standard style. I like using these on a drill press, rather than a hand drill, but they’d work fine in both. The bits arrived sharp, and while I haven’t done any large jobs with them, are holding up well.

This five-piece step bit set by Bestwork will definitely do the trick! I like that it can ream stainless steel, aluminum, wood, or plastic. The five bits come securely seated in a thick, plastic storage box with a solid hinge (not the cheap kind that snaps off after too much bending). The bits’ sizes are clearly marked on the case next to each step bit, and an inside sticker on the lid shows the shape and sizes of the bits. The aggressive teeth help to cut into whatever material you have, and the quality and design will help the set last for years if used properly. Overall, I highly recommend this step bit set by Bestwork; and, as you can see from the many positive reviews, others do too!
