Good value in roof anchors. Strong and up to the task. Eight of them allows 2 roofs to be equipped. Hope I don't need them....but satisfied that they will serve well if needed.

These roof anchors were used for safety on a steep A-frame house roof while re-shingling the roof. There are 2 holes toward the middle of the metal anchors and you are supposed to bend the metal, align the 2 holes and tie off through the holes. It is quite easy to bend the metal and assemble the anchor in that way. However, I found that my 60 degree pitched roof was somewhat rounded at the top and the legs of the anchor did not reach down far enough if assembled as directed. Instead, I left the metal opened, placed a 2 foot poly-coated steel airplane cable (doubled) through the 2 holes (not aligned) and held the cables with cable nuts. I then tied my climbing ropes to the cables (sometimes with carabiners). In doing this, I was able to get the legs of the anchor further down the roof. Even then I was only able to get 2 nails on each side of the anchor into the rafters (total of 4 nails for each anchor); there were 4 pre-drilled holes on each side of the anchor. I was worried at first that 4 nails instead of 8 would not be strong enough, but the supplied nails were hefty and the anchor seemed solid. It was reassuring when I tried to remove the anchor -- I needed a crobar and lots of effort. As it turned out, these anchors were more appropriate for my roof than most anchors would have been because I could adapt them to fit my roof. I would have given this 5 stars if the legs were longer.
