The HALO H99ICAT recessed housing is a small aperture IC AIR-TIGHT housing for accent and task lighting in a new construction environment. It is designed for use in insulated ceilings where it will be in direct contact with insulation. It is an air-tight housing designed to prevent air flow between living spaces and unconditioned areas.

We bought this ceiling box to install two small bubble lights to spot a buffet in the dining room. There weren't alot of other choices rated for Insulation Contact and Air Tight. Although the box is intended for new construction, it worked fine in our 'old construction' application since we have adequate access above the ceiling. Positioning the box using the between-stringer-supports was easy (cut off the tabs to make it fit when the ceiling sheetrock is already up). My favorite feature was the push in wiring box and connectors. By far the easiest fixture to connect I have ever installed.

In a bathroom remodel, I needed an IC-rated can that did not need a lot of height, as it would be placed very close to the rear edge of the roof where the slope is minimal. The H99ICAT barely sticks up above the joists (I have 2x6 joists) - plenty of room. The mounting brackets are versatile, even allowing for use on a suspended ceiling grid. I just nailed them to the joists. Make sure you set the height so that the gasket sits tight against the ceiling material.Wiring was easy - push-in connectors were supplied.

Works great, attic didn't have insulation so it was easy to install, cutting through the 1" of plaster was not too difficult, just cut a hole in a bucket to fit the hose of my shopvac and placed that in the attic upside down over where the hole was going and used a carbide tile bit in a dremel from inside the house to cut the hole. The shopvac and bucket kept the airflow going up and the only dust was from the initial starting of the hole.

These are worthless in California and shouldn’t be sold here. Amazon only has a 30 day window for return, and despite them being marketed as “CA 24 compliant†by the time the inspector saw them he made me rip them out and now I have no recourse. Shame on amazon for offering misleading product information and refusing to take them back.
