Use on sport pants

I bought this tape because I needed a couple of pair of pants hemmed but the hemming was done by my wife. I'm a Civil Engineer and wouldn't know a sewing needle from a hematoma. From my point of view, the pants are hemmed correctly and look to be professionally done. My wife says after she got the feel of it, the hemming was faster and easier to do.The pants have been done for close to a couple of months with no durability questions.I'm calling the hemming tape to be a winner.

Getting a neat hem with this tape is a breeze. It's activated with water, maybe that's why the hold is so much stronger, even after washing. The tape material itself is very strong, so it's perfect for those thick pants you never wear because you keep putting off the time-consuming tedium of hemming them. Good value for a nice long roll. Super pleased with this aggravation-saving, good quality tape.

I used this hem tape on a pair of faux demin material poly cotton blend pants and it worked great for me. It's not crazy crazy fast, there is still some measure and ironing involved but much faster than sewing a decent hem. The material is flowing so it does look a bit stiff at the hem but I don't mind it. I had about two inches I wanted to take off the bottom so the hem is sitting kind of high on the inside but it's holding firm for now.

Sometimes, I need to repair a hem in a hurry. Other times, I need to hem a garment for a client when he/she needs it quickly. In both cases, I may not have time to sew the hem, so this iron-on hem tape allows me to make the quick fix/alteration. The first thing I checked for was comfort against the skin, and I found it to be as soft as the fabric being hemmed. The 1 inch width of the tape keeps the hem in place even with rough use. I put my iron on a cotton setting (since my fabric scraps were cotton) and tested for a 5 second and a 10 second press. It required a 10 second press to adhere completely. (For those who've never used this type of hem tape before, the white part of the tape is the glue, so that side is placed face down on the fabric.) I have not tried washing anything with this tape because I plan to use it for a temporary fix and sew the hem at a later time. It does seem to me that it could be washed at least a few times (and maybe more) if needed. When I run out of this tape, I will order more.

I tested this using it the way I typically use hem tape, which is to lay it on the fabric and press with my iron. That did not work - the white adhesive lines disappeared and it came right off the fabric.I almost tossed it, but before I did, I looked at the product page. Now although the instructions have "applying the hem tape to water will prevent shrinkage" as the caption for the step where the hem tape is dipped in water, what I think they meant was "wet the hem tape to activate the glue".After wetting the hem tape, I laid it on the denim and ironed for 20 seconds. I let the tape cool a bit and then tried pulling it off, but it was stuck on strongly (as desired). So, for future hemming adventures, I have written on the cardboard spool, "Water Activated iron on hem tape. Cut hem tape to length then wet thoroughly. Iron onto garment 20 seconds with hot iron."The hem tape is wider than typical hem tape, and it seems to be meant to be visible within the hem area. It should be used on dark colored garments since the ribbon part is black. Because the tape has to be applied wet, it should not be used on garments made of fabrics that tend to spot when exposed to water.

One thing I hate probably more than anything is doing any alterations myself. I'll gladly pay someone else to take up the hem of a pair of pants or the sleeves on a jacket.I had bought a pair of pants online and they didn't show up until the same day I needed them...and they were 3" too long. I'd had this sitting around and hadn't tried it yet so I pulled it out to test it and it was easy enough to use. It is thick enough though that I would only use it on something with dark material.
