SIZE NOTE | Herm Sprenger collars are made in metric measurements, then converted to rounded up inches for the U.S. market.
SIZING, FIT, TIPS | Measure dog’s neck and add 2 inches. This will be your initial collar size from which you can adjust the collar by removing or adding links to achieve a comfortable, snug training fit. Use the manufacturer recommended maximum dog weight to choose the ideal prong millimeter size.
KEEP COLLAR BALANCED | When adding and removing links, keep the same number of links affixed on each side of the center plate. If the collar fit requires an odd number of links, then make sure one side of the center plate has only one more link than the other side. Your goal is to ensure the center plate stays at the front of the dog's neck above the trachea.
CLEANING | Before use, wash metal collars in warm, mild soapy water to minimize fur discoloration.
TRAINING COLLARS | Training collars are intended for supervised training sessions when the handler is communicating a desired behavior. Users of training devices should be informed and understand how to use training devices. Do not leave a dog unsupervised or alone in a training device and do not leave training devices on a dog full time. Do not use retractable leash devices or elastic tension leads with a training collar. Do not use training collars on dogs younger than 6 months.
HOW TO CHOOSE EXTRA PRONG LINKS | Prong Links can be purchased separately in multipacks. When ordering, ensure you are ordering the correct millimeter sized prong link in the same metal composition as your collar. This will maintain a consistent tensile strength through out the collar, ensuring proper training communication and collar longevity.

Whoever designed the original prong collar was clearly someone with ridiculous hand strength. As a petite woman, those prongs are near impossible to squeeze to take collar on/off or to adjust the size of the collar. I was SO EXCITED when I found this model that has an easy on/off clip and it does exactly what you would expect it to. My dog would pull and choke herself on a normal collar but she walks nicely without stabbing herself and without pain (she's a screamer and a huge wimp, so I'm very confident this is not hurting her, it just gives her some tactile response as to how far she can walk). It is absolutely perfect. A wonderful collar. A life saver. I will use this collar forever, unless it breaks, then I'll get another one. The black color is perfect too.

WATCH PROFESSIONAL VIDEOS BEFORE USING THIS PRODUCT. This is NOT an every-day collar, it is a training tool. As a training tool, it’s fantastic. My girl has some serious prey drive, which made walking in the woods miserable for us both. I tried a no-pull harness, treats, letting her wail it out, and nothing worked. I put a different prong collar on and gave the softest pop (I was so scared at first) and she turned, gave me eye contact and her full attention. It was like ordering food in a foreign country, being anxious about ordering in their language, and the magic moment when they both understand and don’t giggle at you.I upgraded to this one for two reasons: 1.) Buckles are so convenient and 2.) I was not prepared for the subconscious reactions of people around me. I expected people to call me cruel, or question my decision to use this tool - I did not expect them to assume my dog was dangerous. People gave her side eye, even as she walked neatly at my side or wagged her tail. I hadn’t had anyone ask me “is she friendly?†In the 5 months I’ve owned her until I put the silver prong on. Switching to a black one to camouflage it into her coat was a must. Sure it might be nice if people didn’t both us while we were walking, I would rather let them know she’s in training than make them uncomfortable.Looks aside, the quality is fabulous. I didn’t realize how sharp the Petco one was until I felt this one. Way better! The buckle has a sliding bit that covers the button so it can’t be accidentally opened - very clever.

I have bought dozens of the of the Herm Sprenger products, for years I just got the choke collars for training my dogs. But with age I have been buying the prong collars. This collar is excellent made with sure fitting prongs, I sent it back not because there was a manufacture problem, but because I purchased the wrong one. I needed a collar with the prongs completely hidden. I found one and am extremely pleased. It is also a Herm Sprenger collar.

I Have used this for obedience work with our GSD with good response. I dont think it works quite as well as one that tightens when pulled, but it is fast and easy for even kids to put on and definitely more effective than a flat collar. Works well, seems durable and well made. If you or someone have trouble putting on standard prong collars but still want a collar that offers more control you will be happy with it.

Recently rescued a young female GSD and using a pinch-style prong collar was too overwhelming for her and she’d panic with it on. Enter this new collar and it had an immediate positive impact. It’s super quick to both put on and take off with the quick connector, which is good because she would cower away if you held a leash or collar anywhere near her. After a few days of positive reinforcement (& treats) she now gets excited to have this collar put on and go for a walk. It’s just the right amount of stimuli to change her behavior, but not an overload that would freak her out.

For one this collar does help with one of my dogs pulling, but doesn’t faze my other dog. I’ve purchased two of these and after just a few months the collar will unclasp with a slight shake of my dogs head. It’s happened several times and in some really unsafe areas (crossing a 4 lane). For $50+ each I feel it should not be failing after less than 6 months. I’m very disappointed.

We previously purchased 2 other regular, chain/prong Herm Sprenger collars for 2 of our dogs. Decided to try the black one with a buckle for our new dog. Now i have to buy 2 more of these to upgrade from the other ones. This is so simple to use compared to always having to disassemble the prongs on the other style. Just put it on like a regular collar and go. The black collar looks better than the stainless look of the others in my opinion. The buckle has a cover that slides over it so it doesn't accidentally get unbuckled. Bonus, it stays in place much much better than the original style with a chain. It never drops down during the walk. Highly recommend this to anyone who has a dog that pulls, or wants to train the dog to focus on the walk and not distractions.

I have two fairly unruly GSD's and these collars have been great. I used to be against prong collars but am definitely a convert. It is very important to fit these collars and place correctly on the dog's neck. I have had no issues with causing pain or injury with my dogs. My dogs are much more responsive. I only use these collars when my dogs are on leash. DO NOT USE THE COLLARS TO CHAIN YOUR DOG UP. DO NOT USE SLIP COLLARS (CHOKE CHAINS) TO CHAIN YOUR DOG UP. These are only meant to be used while dogs are under your immediate control.

After trying multiple collar/leash combinations , and the fact that my wife refused to walk our 10 month old cream golden retriever, due to her extreme pulling, it was time to get more aggressive.After much research regarding prong/pinch collars we decided on this particular unit.Like most people, I was sceptical about spending $100 on another “training aidâ€Boy , was I wrong. This collar controlled her pulling right from the first walk. I was gobsmacked.My wife is back walking the dog with ease , making what was a dreaded chore , is now a enjoyable walk for all of us.Incredible change that continues to get better every walk…..money well spent!!

So nice to have a prong collar that's easy to get on and off, works about the same as the regular one as far as preventing pulling without all the grief, and it has a slide lock on it so you know it's secure.
